This is a very bad time for the pill-popping, prostitute-fucking, fat asshole.
Recently, two radio stations cut their ties with his ailing radio show: WIBC Indianapolis and WRKO Boston due to the inability to re-sign with the show. So, what does Rush's parent, iHeartRadio (formerly Clear Channel) do? Well, in Indy, they announced that he'll be now on "97.5", which is really a translator station for their low-rated sports station, WNDE 1260.
Now, Blimpo's show has been saved in Beantown as iHM will put him alongside Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity on a new talk station simply called "Talk 1430" WKOX. The station will replace Spanish CHR "Mia", which has been near the bottom of the ratings.
WKOX is 5,000 watts daytime and 1,000 watts nighttime and does have a decent signal in Boston metro. But, it's still a massive downgrade from the 50,000 watts full-time WRKO broadcasts with. Even Rush's other former Boston affiliate, WXKS 1200 (the former "Rush Radio") also pumps out 50KW full-time, albeit directional.
To me, WKOX is simply Boston's version of our WTKG 1230 here in Grand Rapids: throwaway talk stations that iHM uses to prove to advertisers that X show is carried in big markets. However, they're probably happy that Rush is safe here in GR since he's on both WOOD-AM 1300 and 106.9. I looked at Nielsen and the biggest radio market where he's still on a top 10 station is Atlanta (WSB 750), which is market 9. Second place is Salt Lake City, market 29 where KNRS is 6th place.
Look, talk radio is DEAD. Its audience is too old and too conservative and if a company $20 billion in debt like iHM is crazy enough to re-sign Rush to another $50 million per year contract, they're ape-shit crazy. They should simply force Rush to retire and focus on creating formats that people will ACTUALLY listen to. If they have listeners, they'll have advertisers, and if they have advertisers, they can sink that $20 billion debt that's been killing them.
So Rush, who's the slut now?
