In this world where everybody is seeming to say "#MeToo" regarding celebs and politicians, It can be a shame that despite being unpopular, their shows and songs are still being played. After all, somebody right now is watching The Cosby Show or watching "The Usual Suspects".
Or in the case of Ohio State University (and BTW, we have a policy that prohibits us from putting the world "The" in front of "Ohio State University"), they love playing a song that was written and originally performed by a very twisted old man.
When I was watching my Michigan State Spartans football team getting clobbered by OSU on Saturday, the OSU Marching Band lovingly played the 1970s rock classic "Rock and Roll Part 2" in between plays. OK, so it's a familiar rock anthem. It's not really offensive, either; its just a bass, guitar and drums with some guy singing "HEY!" Of course, we've all heard this song at sports arenas and occasionally on classic rock stations.
It's just too bad that the asshole who co-wrote and performed the song is serving a 16-year jail sentence for being a fucking pedophile.
Yep! Paul Francis Gadd, aka Gary Glitter now lives in a jail for sex offenders on the Isle of Wright. He was sentenced in 2015 for molesting two girls under 13 in the 1970s. In 1997, he was busted for downloading thousands of pictures of child pornography on his computer and convicted in 1999, though he was acquitted. He moved to Cambodia and then Vietnam, but was deported from both countries for child molestation.
In 2012, the NFL urged teams to ban "Rock and Roll Part 2", especially since they play several games every year in England.
So, why is OSU still allowing themselves to have a connection to a song from a very sick, deranged man? God only knows. All I can say is I feel bad for anybody who likes that song. Personally, I'd like to see all child molesters rot in jail forever. Since Gary Glitter is 75, chances are that he'll die there.
Maybe OSU and Penn State oughta share a room.
