Earlier today, I was on UpNorthLive.com, the website to northern Michigan NBC affiliate WPBN 7&4 when a message popped up stating "CNN's hypocritical attack on Sinclair". I clicked the link and a YouTube video popped up.
In the video, Sinclair published two different videos regarding CNN. One had them attacking Sinclair and another had another anchor talking about how social media sites like Facebook have posters that don't tell the truth.
Of course, Sinclair is in crisis mode after a video of anchors from multiple stations of theirs appeared online where they all read from the same script. Many of those anchors have even slammed the company for their fake brand of journalism and the fact that they're forcing local newscasts to air segments like the "Terrorism Alert Desk" and commentaries from far-right-winged assholes. One commentator, Jamie Allman from KDNL-TV St. Louis was fired after he tweeted that he was "ready to ram a hot poker up David Hogg's ass". Hogg is the 17-year-old survivor of the Parkland shooting who has been criticized by right-winged pundits for calling for more gun control in America.
It's laughable that Sinclair is calling themselves fair and balanced while their news departments are to the right by Fox News Channel. It's propaganda, plain and simple and it's killing stations like WPBN. What's worse is that through an umbrella company, Sinclair also owns northern Michigan's ABC station, WGTU 29&8. While the FCC prohibits companies from owning more than one TV station in a market the size of Traverse City, companies like Sinclair get around the ruling through fake companies like WGTU's "owner" Chesapeake Media and shared services agreements. Sadly, WPBN/WGTU's rivals, CBS WWTV 9&10 and Fox WFQX 32 are also co-owned thanks to an umbrella company and an SSA.
Under Drumpf's FCC, we could see even more consolidation in the media and we're all gonna pay. Sinclair thinks they're hot shit, but I think if people learn the real truth about this company that gives dearly to the Republicans, they'll be flipping the channel.
Yes, CNN ain't perfect, but better them over Sinclair. Our country needs true journalism, not something that's fake and tawdry.
