Last week, the media showed the world that they only cared about the peanuts while the elephants walked by.
For two days straight on the Lester Holt-less NBC Nightly News, the top stories were Roseanne's fall from grace and Samantha Bee calling Drumpf's daughter a "feckless cunt".
Now, I can understand Roseanne's firing, and she deserved it even though her comeback show was the #1 show for ABC. However, why NBC needed to make Bee's outburst their top story is beyond me. Ivanka is a rich white woman who has had the world handed to her while Valarie Jarret was judged simply because she's black.
And meanwhile while all this is going on, Puerto Rico is still a hellhole.
Since Hurricane Maria hit the island, it's believed that over 4,645 people have died and many of them didn't have adequate medical care. Seventy thousand homes were leveled and over three million people still have no access to electricity.
When the news broke about PR's continued woes, the media was all fixated on Roseanne's ordeal, plus Bee's outburst. To me, it was more of a publicity stunt than anything else. The sad thing is that there WERE some so-called lefties who were appalled by Bee's comments about Ivanka, namely Chelsea "Marijuana kills people" Clinton. Want feckless? Look at what her mom and Debbie Wassermann Schultz did to Bernie Sanders in 2016.
Look, when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941, we responded swiftly. But it's sad that because we have a de facto president who hates Hispanics, the citizens of PR have had to suffer. Our treatment of them has been beyond lackluster and it's painful. I once knew a Puerto Rican woman and she was one of the nicest people I've ever met. She's lucky because she moved to Michigan when she was a little girl. I know, PR has long been a poor part of America, but then again, it's still America.
America: we can't have good healthcare, we can't have good education for all and we have parts of our nation that are beyond poor, but hey! The wealthy will be getting a big, bjuicy tax cut!
