11.15.18 Hero of the Day: Nadia Bolz-Weber

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday; Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Sunday morning on Chuck69.com.

A SPECIAL HERO OF THE DAY!

Name: Nadia Bolz-Weber
Age: 49
Occupation: Lutheran minister

Awarded For: speaking the truth

You know, it's no secret that I'm no fan of evangelical Christianity.

Nothing like some douchebag preacher who begs his poor congregation to give him as much money as possible because God told them to. Of course, that money ends up going into tax-free mansions, jet planes, cars, yachts and other things Jesus would have never imagined having.

Since the beginning of time, preachers have warned us about the so-called dangers of pornography. When I was a teen, I attended a youth ministry at a non-denominational church near Traverse City. The youth pastor - who now runs a megachurch of his own - was telling us teens that Jesus told a group of young men that if we looked at women with a lustful heart, it's the equivalent of committing adultery. Plus, we were all put into small groups and we were all handed sheets that asked us some very personal questions. One of them was "how often do you think about sex?" Needless to say, I wanted out of that hellhole of that ministry. The final nail in the coffin was when the church's senior pastor started asking us all to donate $1.7 million to help expand the church. With the problems my father and I were having with that church, there was No Hope that we would be staying there.

Thankfully, there are preachers out there with a brain and an open mind.

In Denver, there's Nadia Bolz-Weber, who is a Lutheran preacher that leads a church she founded called The House For All Sinners and Saints. She's heavily-tattooed and unlike most pastors, she cusses like a sailor. Supposedly, she even named one of her sermons "Listen, Bitches!" Her church even allows their parishioners to sleep in on Sunday since services don't start til 5pm (that's in part since they share their home church with another church that meets at 10am). Her church is open and affirming to the LGBTQ crowd, even having its own "Minister of Fabulousness".

In an interview with the website outinjersey.net, Bolz-Weber said something you wouldn't hear from most pastors. It's something Beavis once said to high hilarity on Beavis and Butt-head: porn is good for you.

That's right! A woman who has probably read The Bible front to back more than most of us and loves Jesus with all of her heart told outinjersey that viewing porn is just fine, especially if it's "ethically sourced porn". In other words, if the porn shows respect to the woman starring in it, it's A-OK. But if it shows the woman getting the crap slapped out of her, well, it might be questionable per God's word.

"There are people who say it’s sexual immorality, but if you take Liberals and Conservatives who show outrage and made a Venn diagram of those who consume pornography, you’d see a huge overlap," said Bolz-Weber. "I’m not going to shame people when they already feel ashamed, If we took shame out of the fact that people like to view erotic imagery, the compulsive behavior around consuming pornography would decrease."

You know what? SHE'S RIGHT! For years, churches have made people guilty for loving sex, especially those single like me. I occasionally go to strip clubs. Does that make me a bad person? Most churches think so and that I'll be going to H-E-double hockey sticks for allowing a young college girl to sit on my face with only a teeny-weeny little G-string separating my mouth and the part of her body where her poop and farts come out. However, I think God gave her a sexy body and if she wants to show it off, let her.

The truth is that the shit that the Religious Reich has spread about porn and strip clubs is quite the same to "Reefer Madness" spreading shit and lies about pot. Most strip clubs don't do business with sex traffickers, they don't tolerate with prostitution and most women who star in porn aren't forced to. Hell, I think most people who are against porn are into porn themselves or even worse.

As for Bolz-Weber, she even announced that she wants people to donate their promise rings to her so she can melt them down to make a vagina. Talk about precious. At least it might even smell better.

In the end, some people REALLY need to check themselves before they wreck themselves.

11.14.18 Bee-otch of the Day: Donald Trump

You know, it's been too fucking long since I handed Drumpf the BOTD (August, to be exact). Well, it's time to sharpen the ax blade.

Last week, America spoke out and come January, the House will be controlled by the Dems again. But sadly, we're still stuck with Drumpf until at least January 20, 2021, unless *ahem* something happens.

Case in point, how Drumpfster has treated Jim Acosta. When the two were discussing matters, a White House intern tried yanking his mic. However, Drumpf and his minions all claimed that he tried to hit her, which was a lie. Acosta's White House press was revoked, though CNN is now trying to sue to get Acosta's press pass back. Even CNN's rival and Drumpf fave Fox News Channel is in support of Acosta and CNN, shockingly enough.

Meanwhile, the wildfires in California are raging on, burning over 9,000 buildings and killing over 51 so far. Many are calling Drumpf to change his views on climate change, but he seems to not be budging.

With the bullshit that's happened since he was elected president, it seems to be a blessing that the House will soon be run by the Democrats again. Problem is, Nancy Pelosi has put her nose into their business and told them that there could be repercussions if they even think about impeaching Drumpf. I say, bitch, keep your damn mouth shut. Oh, and tell Hillary that if she runs in 2020, it'll be an automatic second term for Drumpf. It's amazing that Dubya's a wanted man worldwide and yet he gets to fly freely in all 50 states.

It's amazing how in a few short years time, our country has gone back into a pit of hell all because of the flaming pile of shit known as the Electoral College. Hell, I look at Michigan and am thankful that the EC doesn't work here since Bill Shitty lost the governor's race even though he still won most of Michigan's counties. Then again, most Michigan counties are VERY sparsely populated and many of those rural territories are populated with racists and gun nuts. Personally, if we need to get rid of Drumpf, we oughta 1) eliminate the EC and 2) FERCHISSAKES, DEMS NEED TO BE TRUE PROGRESSIVES! ENOUGH KISSING REPUKE ASS ALREADY!

Only two more years, I hope.

11.13.18 Bee-otch of the Day: Entercom

Name: Entercom Communications
Age: 50

Bee-otched For: unplugging Amp for sleepytime music
--

Once upon a time, there was a little rock station in Detroit called WLLZ, aka "Detroit's Wheels".

From 1980 to 1995, 98.7 was one of Detroit's most-popular rock stations, even helping to force 106.7 W4 to change formats to country in 1981. By the early 90s, WLLZ was alternative and sinking in the ratings fast. Detroit had a plethora of rock stations by the mid-90s playing everything from classics to metal. WLLZ was a has-been, and in 1995, it flipped to smooth jazz as WVMV/V98.7.

WVMV did well in the ratings for many years. But by 2009, the smooth jazz format nationally had been seeing poor ratings, so once again, it flipped to a new format: CHR as WDZH Amp 98.7. CBS had been flipping many of its stations to the Amp format; but in its eight years in existence, 98.7 failed to overtake iHeartMedia's WKQI/Channel 955.

Now, Amp has been unplugged.

Last weekend, 98.7 flipped to Christmas music. But, on Monday morning, it officially became 98.7 The Breeze, playing soft AC music.

A typical hour of The Breeze has tunes like Atlantic Starr's "Always", Steve Perry's "Foolish Heart", "We've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger, Tina Turner's "What's Love Got To Do With It" and other tunes that are typical AC fare that nobody under the age of 50 gives two shits about. One of the station's slogans is "Relaxing Favorites At Work". Usually, a station like that has an audience that's around my mother's age, and she's 63. Not really the type of demographic advertisers would want (and in my mom's case, since she moved here to Grand Rapids a few weeks ago, she's only shopped at Meijer, Walmart and Michael's). I would imagine that if one would listen to The Breeze at work, they could turn their office keyboard into a pillow. They might as well put Brahm's Lullaby into the playlist.

Ya know, my uncle once was an ad sales rep for WDZH's rival station, iHeart's 100.3 WNIC 15 years ago. He was canned after six months. Why? It's because he only sold two spots. TWO. Over the years, advertisers have been turning their backs to terrestrial radio because more and more people are listening to satellite and digital radio. People simply are tired of hearing the same 200 songs over and over.

Musically, The Breeze is somewhat similar to the old Magic 105.1, which flipped to sports and is now classic hip-hop as 105.1 The Bounce. IIRC, they were getting creamed by WNIC in the ratings towards the end.

So, why soft AC for 98.7? Good question. Detroit's already got two active rock stations, so that's a no-go. 93.9 and 106.7 are both alternative and neither have good ratings. Classic hits or a Jack-like format's out of the question since WOMC's their sister station. Detroit's already got a shit ton of urban stations. Since Detroit's two ACs - WNIC and Cumulus hot AC WDVD 96.3 - both go after those slightly too old for Channel 955, soft AC it is.

IMHO, I don't think 98.7 will see a drastic ratings improvement over Amp. 100.5 The River here in GR has been soft AC FOREVER and has no ratings. Soft AC was tried and failed miserably on three different stations up north (and ironically, one of the stations was called "The Breeze").

Radio: it's out of ideas, folks.

11.12.18 Hero of the Day: Stan Lee

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday; Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Sunday morning on Chuck69.com.

-------

A SPECIAL HERO OF THE DAY!

Name: Stan Lee
Age: was 95
Occupation: comic book writer and creator
Last Seen: up in the heavens with Jack Davis, Harvey Kurtzman and others
Awarded For: being probably the greatest comic book legend ever

--

Just imagine this world if Stan Lieber didn't exist.

There wouldn't be a Spider-Man, a Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, Fantastic Four, and others. Marvel Comics wouldn't be the household name it is and the local movie theater wouldn't load up half its screens with Marvel movies.

In an interview, he claimed that one of the keys to his success was to make his heroes normal everyday folks who had flaws. He felt that writing about perfect people was a cop-out. Lee was probably one of those people since he was 40 when he created Spider-Man. Before becoming successful, he was churning out stories at Marvel, known in its early days as Timely Comics.

Because of all the characters that he created, he was undoubtedly the face of Marvel Comics. He was pretty much its brand ambassador, something Marvel's rival, DC never really had. Many of Marvel's movies had Stan do a cameo, ala Hitchcock to the delight of their fans.

In 2009, Marvel was sold to Disney for $4 billion. Lee still lived somewhat comfortably with $50 million in the bank since he didn't own Marvel shares. However, his family ended up suing a former manager of his for stealing from him. A few months ago, a shocking video showed an elderly and frail Lee signing autographs while his managers tell him how to spell his name. Many simply said that it was time for Lee to rest since he's had a wonderful career.

And they were right. Thanks to Stan Lee, the world of comics are definitely not the same. He proved that ordinary people can do wonderful things and could overcome the world of evil. Now, he can rest.

Excelsior, Mr. Lee.

11.8.18 Bee-otches of the Day: The Republican Party

BECOME AN AFFILIATE OF T-SHIRT HELL AND MAKE SOME MONEY!

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday; Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Sunday morning on Chuck69.com.

Name: The Republican Party
Age: 164
Occupation: right-winged dicks
Last Seen: Washington, DC
Bee-otched For: another day, another shooting

---

Last night, another tragic event unfolded at a popular bar in Los Angeles.

Thirteen people, including a sheriff's deputy and college students were killed at the Borderline Bar and Grill when a gunman came in with a Glock equipped with a magazine opened fire. The shooter was 28-year-old Ian Long, an Iraqi War vet who was a regular at the Borderline, a bar that catered to the country music crowd.

What might be the most-tragic of last night's shooting was the fact that some of the people attended the country music festival in Las Vegas last year where 59 people were all shot to death.

It's not totally known what Long's motive was, though it was rumored that he had been battling PTSD, which is common for many Iraq War vets.

It's sad knowing that this is a nation where there's a mass shooting almost daily. Names like "Columbine", "Sandy Hook", "Parkland", "Pulse Nightclub" and now "Thousand Oaks" are now a part of our lingo, and all for all the wrong reasons.

Like I've said way too many times, this is a nation where if a woman shows a nipple on live TV, the FCC jacks up their indecency fines. But when 59 people are killed, our government won't do a goddamned thing about it. What might be even more strange is that now, two of the mass shootings here in America involved country music, whose fanbase tends to be friendly towards guns and the Second Amendment.

The only good out of all this is the fact that the House now has a Democratic majority again, though sadly, the Senate is still loaded with Repukes. Hopefully, this will begin a process to get the NRA-ass-kissing, gun-loving assholes out of our government. It's time for common sense gun reform so tragedies like this won't happen again.

Thoughts and prayers sure as hell ain't enough.

Well, it's been a day since one of the most-important midterm elections in US history.

There was a lot of good that came from this year's election. Michigan's next governor wasn't endorsed by Drumpf, an Uncle Tom won't be our next senator here in Michigan, people here in Michigan will soon be allowed to legally smoke pot and maybe most-importantly, the Dems are taking back the House.

True, it wasn't a total blue wave, sadly. Here in Michigan, several Repukes still won seats here in west Michigan and up north as well. Fuck, I'm wondering why people in northern Michigan chose a troll from da You Pee over Matt Morgan. But then again, this is northern Michigan we're talking about here: an area loaded with retirees, gun nuts and former Detroiters who wanted to get away from black people.

Of course, the biggest disappointment was in Texas where Beto O'Rourke lost to Ted Cruz by 223,000 votes. But hey! At least Drumpf fired his pot-hating AG Jeff Sessions. But still, Drumpf sucks as president.

The best thing to think about regarding this year's midterms is probably the fact that for the first time in American history, over 100 million people voted in this election. However, that's still only 49% of the voting public. So in other words, if your candidate didn't win and you didn't vote for him or her, don't bitch.

I'll admit, I didn't vote in the 2000 elections. I didn't like Bush because he's a Repuke and Al Gore made the mistake of allowing Joe Lieberman to be his running mate. Being a hardcore Stern fan, I felt abandoned. However, seeing the destruction Bush did in his first four years, I did vote in the 2004 elections and voted for John Kerry. He still lost, but when Bush's BS was causing everybody to become bankrupt, at least I could bitch.

You know, I'm happy I've voted in every election since I got registered. Hell, I even vote for mayor in my hometown! He's brought a lot of businesses to my city. We have Dave and Buster's and Trader Joe's! He's non-party, so I could care less what he is.

Now that Prop 3 has been passed here in Michigan, maybe it'll help bring more voters in. Hell, I love the idea of voting from home via mail. It sure beats standing in line at the polls, though I was in and out in a 1/2 hour.

2020 is coming and I hope that the Dems will not cause the same mistake that caused Drumpf to win. It's time for them to allow the people to choose their next president or else Drumpf will be a two-termer. Hillary lost by three million votes and it's because she lost the midwest by slim margins. The Electoral College ain't going away. If people see their votes in the primary disappear like it did in 2016, expect low voter turnout and like I said, another four years of Drumpf. Already, his BS is causing prices to rise and people to lose their jobs.

But in the end, people still have a choice.
