Over the years, the great National Broadcasting Company has shot themselves in the foot several too many times. They fire a lot of great people despite great ratings, or just let them rot away to another network ala Conan O'Brien.
But now, it's Keith Olbermann's turn. The host of MSNBC's Countdown went on a two-day hiatus sans pay because he was caught donating to several Democrats without telling his bosses at the network. Olbermann donated $2,400 to three Democrats each, and according to network policy, NBC employees cannot donate without permission. However, thanks to protests from his fans and other MSNBC viewers, he'll be back on the air today.
Many feel that politics are playing a role in the liberal Olbermann's suspension; MSNBC does have a liberal lean because of Olbermann, alongside Rachel Maddow and Ed Schultz. However, the network also airs drivel from Republicans Joe Scarborough and Pat Buchanan, and even the majority parent of MSNBC, GE has given millions - maybe billions - to the Republicans. Hell, they gave Dubya's bar slut daughter a job as a reporter for the Today Show. With NBC parent NBC Universal's majority being sold to Comcast with GE still owning a minority of the media giant, some wonder if Olbermann's suspension is business oriented.
But the good news is, maybe Olbermann's suspension was to boost ratings. Hey! The Democrats need as much help as possible. Since losing a week ago during the midterms, maybe MSNBC suspending Olbermann is nothing more than a publicity stunt.
But, this is NBC we're talking about.
