Please, 2014, come sooner so we can get the Nerd out of the Michigan capital.
Last week, Rick Snyder held his State of the State address. As usual, the Republicans praised him while the Dems questioned his authority, especially since throngs of protestors stood and chanted outside the state capital. Of course, people are still fuming over the fact that the ex-Gateway CEO signed the speedy Right-to-Work bill into law without hearing any opposition to it.
In his speech, Snyder talked about how Michigan is now the 6th-fastest-growing state in America. Yeah, it's because of Obama, dumbass. He and Jennifer Granholm helped Michigan re-build the auto industry, not you. Bear in mind that Snyder's only been governor for two years and thinks that he's the one that's rebuilding this state by union-busting. Well, let's remember what Reagen did for America in the 1980's. End result: the kids of the 1980's - like myself - are stuck with low-paying jobs and no real protection.
I also love the fact that Snyder's now proposing raising the gas taxes in this state even further, even saying that all of us need to share in the responsibility of making the roads safer. Kinda sounds like Bush's idea of healthcare: forcing Americans to have a health savings account so they're the ones paying for healthcare while their bosses make more money. Ya know, Michigan has some of the wealthiest billionaires in this country: DeVos, Meijer, Stryker and the list goes on. If Virg Bernero was governor, I would have imagined that he would raise their taxes to help pay for road repair and jobs and not put the burden on those who live out in the country and drive 60 miles round trip daily to make $8.00 per hour.
I'll admit, I only heard a few blurbs from Snyder's speech, but I don't care. I personally think that he'll be one and done. It sickens me that Engler left Granholm with so much BS that it couldn't take her eight years to fix his problems, and she took all the blame for Michigan's demise in the 2000's. Yeah, RTW might create jobs, but it's all low-paying, high-hour and a quick trip to the grave. I know how it feels to work 50+ hours a week, folks. It's stressful.
I think 2014 will be a monumental year for America. It'll be the year we clean out the House of all the Teabaggers and same here for Michigan. Snyder was a bought governor by the Kochs, plain and simple. This state needs a tough Democrat to make this state run successfully again, not a union buster.
Especially not one who turned a successful computer company into something owned by the Taiwanese.
