Once upon a time, there was a radio duo named Opie and Anthony.
These two schmucks had a somewhat popular radio show that practically was a knock-off of Howard Stern, except that it wasn't what Howard was, and that was funny. Of course, O&A worked at classic rocker WNEW while Howard was at K-Rock, both CBS O&Os.
Then, O&A crossed the line. During a contest called "Sex For Sam's", two idiot listeners had sex in a Catholic church confession booth and it was broadcast live. The station was slammed with a massive FCC fine and Catholics were pissed. As a result, O&A, WNEW's GM and PD were all canned. Because of all this, the duo ended up going to XM where they were free to offend everybody they wanted to.
Then came that glorious day known as 1.9.06 when Howard Stern moved his radio show to Sirius. Meanwhile, O&A proved to all that their XM gig was worthless when they were re-hired by CBS because without Howard, they were nothing. Even that experiment proved to fail.
In 2014, SiriusXM fired Anthony Cumia because of a racist rant on Twitter when a black woman kicked his ass. A year later, he was charged with beating the shit out of his 26-year-old girlfriend. Since then, O&A haven't talked a whole lot and Opie has been stuck doing his show solo.
Now, the once-proud Opie Channel on SiriusXM has a new name: Faction Talk. The channel is a spin-off of the Faction music channel on SXM, which plays a hybrid of hard rock, punk and hip-hop. Jason Ellis, who had been hosting a show on Faction moves to the new channel.
To Opie, this has got to be embarrassing. Not to mention the fact that he's back in afternoons.
Once upon a time, O&A's army of pests would step on us Stern fans for accusing their heroes of ripping off Stern's show. Hell, one fan was nice enough to tell me that "Opie and Anthony own your soul". Oh, really?
True, Howard only works three days a week now and his show isn't what it was 20 years ago *COUGHMARCITURKCOUGH*, but better Stern over what's left of Opie. True, he had Artie Lange on his show a few months ago and it was a Stern bashfest, but bear in mind that Artie's a frickin' cokehead! No wonder why Howard buried him under the rug!
Opie: even without Anthony, he's a zero.... point.... zero.
