Here in Grand Rapids, very few people like the Buckeyes.
The Blue Jackets, the Indians, the Browns, (with the exception of a co-worker of mine) the Cavs, the Reds and the Bengals don't have many fans around here, either.
So the question is, why in the fucking hell is classic rocker WBFX/101.3 The Brew now airing an Ohio-based morning show that's been a proven ratings disaster outside of Cleveland?
Just weeks after iHeartMedia shitcanned the popular Ken Evans for Detroit-based Mojo in the Morning on CHR WSNX 104.5 and making the whole station - sans middays - voicetracked from sister WKQI/Channel 955 Detroit, the company formerly known as Clear Channel has done it again. They are now beaming Howard Stern clone show Rover's Morning Glory out of rocker WMMS 100.7 Cleveland to The Brew, a station that's struggled with ratings since they were The Fox 15 years ago.
RMG replaces market vet LT, whose profile has been replaced on the station's website. He's worked at WLAV/96.9 and the now-defunct WKLQ where he was the racist "Nosmo King", pretty much a black stereotype.
As some of you know, Rover was one of the Stern clones CBS chose replace the KOAM as part of their ill-fated "Free FM" network ten years ago. His show aired on 97.1 Detroit to horrible numbers. Of course, the station is now sports WXYT/97.1 The Ticket with great ratings. His show is syndicated to a few other stations, reportedly to crappy numbers.
For one, I wonder why in the hell our town, which has a few indie brewers like Founder's has a station called "The Brew" which has a music mix that appeals to heroin and meth addicts. 101.3 has been classic rock for over 15 years and they've long been WLAV's bitch. With Rover's arrival in GR, all I can say is that Free Beer and Hot Wings have nothing to worry about.
iHeartMedia: $1.15 a share and sitting pretty!
