Last weekend, I was watching an awards ceremony on TV that celebrated the best in movies.
And no, it ain't the Oscars.
It was the 35th AVN Awards, which aired on Showtime 2. The ceremony was aired in January, but was repeated on Showtime 2 last weekend. Anyway, one of the speakers at the event, held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas was Kevin Moore, the widower of August Ames, who took her own life just before Christmas last year.
Ames, 23 was molested by her grandfather as a little girl. Because her parents didn't believe her, she was sent to a group home as a teen. She worked odd jobs until when she was 19 when she starred in her first adult picture.
In her short four-year career, Ames starred in nearly 300 movies and was nominated for several AVN Awards. However, her life started to crumble all because of a tweet.
In December, Ames - nee Mercedes Grabowski - tweeted that she asked her producers to not let her perform sex scenes with men who have had sex on camera with other men. The reason why was in part due to bi and gay men being more at risk of having HIV or AIDS. Many criticized Ames for being homophobic, which pushed her in a downward spiral. A day later, Ames was found 20 miles from her home in California, dead from hanging herself.
At the ceremony, Moore - a porn producer - told the audience that women are the backbone of the porn business and we needed to respect them and respect what they want to do with their bodies. Needless to say, what Moore said was probably a million times more meaningful than many speeches ever said at other award ceremonies.
Sadly, bullying is a lot easier in front of a computer or any other gadget that transmits over the World Wide Web than in person. Trust me, I've been a victim of cyberbullying myself over shit that I've said 15 years ago that somehow is still floating on the web. But I've learned that the only way to avoid these assholes is to simply walk away from the matter and let karma hit them hard on the ass. Trust me. There was a guy who harassed me years ago on a message board and eventually, karma hit him hard when his wife left him and the little businesses that he started all failed. At last check, he was now living in a trailer park. Sucks to be him.
The funny thing about cyberbullying is that the person who is supposedly trying to curb it has a husband who sits on the shitter at three in the morning doing everything she acts like she's against.
Today, Melania Trump was on the White House lawn talking about the White House's "Be Best" initiative, which is supposed to teach children that cyberbullying is not cool. And guess who was looking her on? Why, it was Drumpf himself!
Of course, another pillar of the Be Best initiative was curbing opioid abuse. Legalize pot, problem solved.
You know, what the Drumpfs are doing is nothing more than being a bunch of fucking hypocrites. This is a fake president who participated in the National Day of Prayer though he's banged a porn star while married to Melania, mind you. A schmuck who was once a frequent guest on Stern and now he's bowing to the same assholes who tried to cancel his radio show. Talk about steady leadership... NOT.
But the good news in all this is that like Stormy Daniels said on SNL last weekend, a storm's coming through.
