It was one of the weirdest stories in the entertainment business in a long, long time. Why the wife of the man who gave us Shaggy and American Top 40 would put her husband in so much turmoil was beyond us for years.

On Saturday night, the long-running CBS News series 48 Hours exposed the situation regarding the drama between radio legend Casey Kasem's wife and his children from his first marriage. They explained that Kasem was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, which is like Parkinson's Disease in 2007. Two years later, he stepped away from his two adult contemporary radio countdowns. I personally remembered listening to some of his final shows and noticed that his speech was a little off.

Casey's appearances started to become too far and between. Then, it was revealed from his daughter Kerri that not only did he have dementia, but she and her two siblings from Kasem's first wife were being barred from seeing him per his wife, Jean. She claimed that the three only wanted Casey's money. However, all three worked; as a matter of fact, Kerri and brother Mike followed in their father's footsteps into radio. Jean, OTOH, was an occasional actress who simply lived off of Casey.

The 48 Hours episode revealed that Jean never got along with Casey's three older children. When Casey's health deteriorated, Jean did her damndest to hide him from them, even taking him out of his nursing care without his medications to take him to Las Vegas and finally to her friend's house in Washington State. The Kasem kids found out his location and a judge ordered him to be back into their care. It was at Jean's friend's house that she threw hamburger at them and spewed Bible verses at them as well. By the time Casey was escorted by ambulance to the hospital, he was beyond saving since Jean did not give him proper medication. The Kasem kids were told by his doctor to cut off his medication and they did. Kemal Amin Kasem died on June 15, 2014 at the age of 82. Currently, Jean has him buried in Oslo, Norway, a place Kasem's children claimed that he never even visited.

Now, a judge will decide this Spring on who gets Casey's $100 million fortune (that's a lot of Long Distance Dedications). The two sides are suing and countersuing each other claiming that they both killed Casey.

Personally, if I were the judge, I would rule in favor of Casey's three older children. Why? Because the same shit happened to my aunt this past year. As I've mentioned, my aunt died in July at the age of 60 from brain cancer. She was a saint who left us too soon. She always always thought of others and helped out when she could, like Casey's many charitable efforts for progressive politics, animal rights and the MDA Labor Day Telethons. When I had major money troubles a few years ago and I announced that I was donating plasma, she gave me $50. She always invited me over for Sunday dinner and so on. However, she never seemed to think about herself and her own welfare, and there were two reasons why: her children.

My aunt worked hard to become a registered nurse. However, working seemed to never mean a damn thing for her two kids. Her daughter married a wealthy man and her son never had a good job and basically lived with her until he was 30. He ended up moving to Detroit, became a holier-than-thou Catholic and married a Chaldean woman who worked in real estate. Now, the two are in the real estate business.

When my aunt was diagnosed with brain cancer, she needed around-the-clock care. My female cousin did look after her for a while, but her husband told her to get rid of her and my male cousin, well, was a total asshole. She was put in an assisted living care center and he got into a shouting match with her doctor. So guess what he did? The same shit Jean did to Casey: took her out of the care center without her meds. He put his own mom onto a dirty old mattress on his apartment floor. The next morning, she was having a seizure and somebody did call 911. He simply went to the hospital and drove home without being by her side. Sadly, the seizure wiped what little life she had left.

To make matters worse, her daughter came here to Michigan, but only to visit her in-laws. Her excuse? "I'll see her next month". Well, she didn't make it. She died on July 19. At the spur of the moment, he planned her funeral and decided to bury her in a mausoleum instead of honoring her wish of having her buried next to my grandparents.

The tragedy in all this is that she left behind $150,000 and it all went to them. They don't deserve a goddamned penny of that money after how they treated her. They did to their mother some of the same shit Jean did to Casey and it's disgusting. What's even more disgusting is that today's my aunt's son's birthday. I check on Facebook and virtually nobody from my family wished him a happy birthday. Sucks to be him. As far as I'm concerned, he's no longer a part of my family. It's sad that he has a wife, a baby daughter and another kid on the way. I fantasize her leaving him because of his actions, but since Chaldeans are weird people, I don't ever see that happening, sadly. I might not be married, have kids or lots of money, but I'm thankful that my mom recently moved close to me. Currently, she's fighting the stomach flu and so, I went to the store and got her some Vernor's. When I did, I told myself that what I just did was a TRILLION times more positive than the shit my aunt's two kids did to her.

The point is that this is enough proof that Jean is a fucking space cadet and needs to be thrown in jail. It's a shame that Casey simply used her as his personal arm candy (and as you can tell, she's taller than him) and his children had to suffer. If a man knows that he's being used, it must come to a stop. But, who knows? At least his kids knew to put him in their care when the first signs of dementia were hitting him.

I, like millions of people around the world loved Casey and I even convinced my mother when I was a kid to skip church to listen to Casey's Top 40. I learned a lot more from him and Shadoe Stevens growing up than any Sunday School teacher. I wanted to get into radio as a kid because of him, but of course, that wasn't meant to be since the radio business sucks, sadly. Of course, I was saddened when the news of his illness and family drama came about. At least he's no longer suffering.

Casey would always end his show with "keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars". If a statement was attached to Jean, it should be "don't let the door hit you on the ass".
