You know, I was going to publish this last week.

But then, I got busy. I was busy helping my mom with various things and work simply made me tired. The comfortable temperatures didn't help matters, either.

But maybe the wait was worth it.

It used to be that if nobody heard from you in a long time, you were washed-up or a has-been. I remembered as a kid that Mad Magazine did an article with the title "You Know You're a Has-Been If..." One of the images was that of Flip Wilson with the caption "your own name is a stumper in the game of 'alive or dead?'" In the 1970s, Flip was a comedy superstar with his own TV variety show. However, after his show ended in 1974, he wasn't seen often. It wasn't because of Hollywood rejection, it was because he had a more-important job: dad. He had five children and spent less time in front of the camera to spend time with them.

It's understandable that money isn't everything. Just days after my parents divorced, my mother lost her job as a secretary and ended up back at the job she had beforehand as a gas station clerk. Her new-old boss - who was also her new landlord - gave her the opportunity to be a manager for more money. She declined because she wanted to be with me more. In a way, I didn't blame her.

Shad Gaspard was not on the same level as Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker, Stone Cold Steve Austin or even Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He had two tours of duty with the WWE. Both times, he was in a tag team called "Cryme Time" with Jayson Paul, aka JTG. Cryme Time was a fan favorite as the two were a mockery of a street gang. They stole everything from TVs to watches and other items of WWE wrestlers. They even hooked up with the company's franchise player, John Cena to form "Cryme Time Cenanation" in a storyline from 2008.

After Gaspard was released from the WWE in 2010, he wrestled in a few independent circuits. He even appeared in several movies, such as "Get Hard", "Think Like a Man Too" and "The Last Sharknado: It's About Time".

Last week on May 17, Shad and his 10-year-old son Aryeh were swimming at Venice Beach in California when a rip current pushed them and another group of swimmers under. The two had trouble swimming and lifeguards rushed over to save them. When the lifeguards arrived, Shad told them to save his son first. They did, but it was too late for Shad. He was swept underwater and never seen again. The Coast Guard searched for his body for days and could not find him. Last Wednesday, Shad's body was found washed ashore on Venice Beach. He was just 39 years old.

Without a doubt, legions of wrestlers and fans paid tribute to Gaspard. Most-importantly, he died a hero by telling the lifeguards to put his son over him. Shad Gaspard took a huge, watery bullet for his son, proving that he was a real father.

Since Gaspard's tragic death, his friends have organized a GoFundMe for his family to help cover funeral expenses. One of the donors wrote "CTC RIP" and donated $40,000, leading people to think that it was John Cena. Tony Khan, the head of WWE rival AEW donated $10,000 while current AEW wrestler and former WWE star Chris Jericho donated $5,000. Fitness guru Jaz Mathur, WWE stars Shelton Benjamin, Jinder Mahal, Ricochet and AEW stars Cody and Brandi Rhodes also donated to the Gaspards.

Sadly, since Gaspard's death, another wrestling star since passed away.

Her name was Hana Kimura. She wrestled with the Japanese woman's wrestling outfit World Wonder Ring Stardom. She also was a star of a show on Netflix called Terrace House. She also briefly wrestled with Ring of Honor here in America.

Kimura was the daughter of another Japanese wrestling legend, Kyoko Kimura. Kyoko was known for her wild, poofy hair and extreme barbed wire matches.

Recently, Hana fell victim to vicious attacks on social media. The attacks all stemmed from a scene on Terrance House where one of her housemates throws her wrestling outfit in the laundry, ruining it. She was upset, and people attacked her online because of the situation. Hana could not handle the negativity she received. She posted disturbing photos of her in self-harm and then posted a note saying "Good-bye. I love you, have fun and live a long time. I'm sorry." She died on Saturday at the tender age of 22. Her suicide was caused by her ingesting hydrogen sulfide gas. Later that evening during AEW's Double Or Nothing PPV event, they put on a slide honoring Hana with the announcers telling fans to be careful what they say on the internet.

True, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our country has been blessed with a reduction of shootings, especially in schools. Sadly, however, people can say horrible and nasty things that can lead people into hating themselves to the point of wanting to leave this Earth. I know that the worst people on Earth are simply people themselves. Sometimes, it's hard to walk away from the pain people can cause you, especially if the negativity outweighs the healthy, positive comments you get.

Folks, hurt people hurt people. A long time ago, there was a young boy who had no friends. He had ADHD and the only person who seemed to like him was his father, who owned a tool and die shop. He grew up and became a radio DJ. He married and had a son. He also had other side hustles to keep the finances afloat. However, the hurt he got as a young boy gave him a license to hurt others online. He was a big poster on several message boards and even planned and organized a meet and greet with posters he met online. However, he used one of his identities to attack people online, especially those whom he met at the meet and greets. He especially made fun of people who were living paycheck to paycheck and people who supported unions. He also slammed people who lived in apartments, though he was a renter himself. Well, not long afterward, his wife left him. He remarried and the last time I heard, he was living in a trailer park. I guess he now owns another home-based business that involves his fat ass coming into peoples' homes. With COVID-19 being rampant, I wouldn't want strangers into my home, period.

And why do I know this? Because I was one of his victims.

I know I'm far from perfect. Man is five, the Devil is six and God is seven, so quoth Black Francis. I've given out my fair share of attacks since I started BOTD 21 years ago. But, the majority of my victims do so because they put themselves in front of others. That's why my subjects over the years have included Drumpf, George W. Bush, oversized radio companies and so on. When I was young, I was taught that if you worked in fast food and make minimum wage, you're a loser. However, many fast food workers do have college degrees. Not all people who live in small apartments are broke, either. After all, Benny Hill chose to live in one though he was a millionaire many times over.

But the point is, I know the limits. For people to pick on a young lady because of what she did on a reality show shows how sad and cruel people are. But if we've learned something from the pandemic, it's the sad, painful lesson that there's more stupid people out there than intelligent people. If worrying about a girl whose wrestling outfits are destroyed in the laundry is your life's purpose, you're an idiot. Worry about your life instead of hurting others.

Shad Gaspard and Hana Kimura were two people whose lives ended way too short. On this Memorial Day, think about how wonderful life can be. The soldiers who fought for our freedom took a bullet for us because they loved us so much. Same with Shad with his son and Hana for teaching us that online bullying is wrong.

They paid the sacrifice, so we don't have to.
