It was a day that will live in our hearts for years to come.

Ten years ago yesterday, I was asleep at my mother's house in northern Michigan when I woke up and turned on the radio at just before 11 a.m. I was listening to the Dave Barber Show on the old NewsRadio 1210 in Traverse City and he was talking to a caller about passengers being stranded on a plane. The top of the hour was approaching, and Dave said, "we'll be right back on what's becoming the worst day in American history, stay with us, more to come". I thought he was being sarcastic as usual.

But, he wasn't.

The top of the hour CNN news feed hit, and I couldn't believe my ears. The World Trade Center collapsed, the Pentagon was hit and another plane had crashed in Pennsylvania. I leaped from my bed and headed downstairs. I turned on the TV and there it was: plumes of dust and smoke that was once concrete, steel and human lives had disintegrated into the air where the Twin Towers once stood. It was nothing short of tragic.

Ten years later, the remains of the Twin Towers are a monument, with two of the largest man-made waterfalls ever built. Like the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, a wall with all of the nearly 3,000 people who died that day stands where people can grab a piece of paper and trace victims' names on there.

Without a doubt, 9/11 was a day where many heroes were created, especially the many heroic firefighters, policemen and paramedics who risked life and limb to rescue those trapped in the rubble. Sadly, many of those still alive who sifted through the remains of Ground Zero are now fighting cancers and lung ailments caused by breathing in the toxic dust of the World Trade Center aftermath. Many of these rescuers are dying every week and nobody knows how many will be left in a few short years.

But yes, 9/11 had its enemies, mainly Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda. Sadly, 9/11 taught us that we had to be more fearful about our own leaders, especially George W. Bush. After the 9/11 attacks, Bush was the Man of the Year. But sadly, we realized that there was a pure reason he was president, especially after the great Florida snafu: $$$.

Osama was the enemy, yet Bush threw us into Iraq instead. Osama was nothing to him, but Saddam was since he had oil. Iraq was a nice, peaceful nation before Bush created his little fake war, using 9/11 as his reasoning. Saddam was hanged to death and America was still asking, "where's Osama?"

Of course, that all changed on May 1st of this year when President Obama announced to the world that we had finally caught him. For the first time in years, America felt closure. And it was proof that we had a far-better president in office over the buffoon known as Dubya.

Sadly, the damage is still done. Under Bush, we had our worst economy since 1929 in 2008, we have a 9% unemployment rate and the wealthiest Americans pay the lowest taxes of anybody on Earth. President Obama seems to being trying somewhat to reverse Bush's decisions, but many have felt that he is flat-out being nothing but an asskisser to the Tea Party right. Who knows?

Point is, Wounds like this take forever to heal. Bush knew that the attacks were on the way, and decided to let them happen. If they didn't happen, he would be a one-termer and he wouldn't be a hero. Either way, he wasn't a hero. He even used an Osama video to get himself re-elected in 2004. The truth is, he forced fear down America's throats for eight years and made us lose. Now, Americans are beyond broke while the wealthy get their butts wiped on a daily basis.

Say whatever you want about 9/11, whether you think that Osama was involved or not, but Bush is still the enemy no matter what. Sadly, he got to bow next to Obama at the 9/11 Memorial Sunday when he should be in jail for conspiracy and war crimes. It's because of him that I'm almost a proud Democrat. Yes, the Dems are far from perfect, but at least they don't throw us into fake wars that cost us $6 trillion.

In the end, my thoughts and prayers still go out to those affected by that sickening day. 9/11 will never leave us, especially to those who lived it. We'll keep moving on, but not without the pain we all felt that tragic day.

And to "President" Bush, enjoy your bed of French linens.
