NOTE: I originally gave Mr. Albom the Hero's honor on Friday, but I want it to be official. I'm just a little bushed from the Black Keys concert I saw the night before...

Recently, a 101-year-old woman in Detroit, Texana Hollis was evicted from her home because her family didn't pay taxes on it. She had lived in that house for over 60 years, and her late husband, a WWII vet worked two jobs to pay for it.

Hollis' son was responsible for her finances, and he was the one responsible for her eviction. When news broke about her troubles, a man sprung to action. Not only did he purchase the home for $100 from the HUD, but the organization he runs is donating $20,000 and free labor to renovate the dilapidated home to bring it back up to code.

So, who's the Superman behind helping this poor, old black woman? None other than Mitch Albom.

Yep! The Tuesdays With Morrie author and WJR radio host helped Ms. Hollis move back into her home on Wednesday through his SAY Foundation (Super All Year) which helps the homeless. It mostly helps homeless shelters, but in Hollis' case, it helped her back into her home.

Albom also runs several other organizations: The Dream Fund helps underprivileged children study the arts, A Time to Help uses volunteers to help with various projects around Detroit and A Hole in the Roof aims to help faith-based groups repair their spaces if needed.

Now, I would imagine that if Rush Limbaugh heard this story, he would basically think that this old lady was going to die in a few years and that it sucked to be her that she was losing her home. If that was the case, he would be a pathetic soul and a half. Rush hates Detroit. Remember that Detroit Piston game from many years ago when a player from the opposing team ran into the stands and started assaulting a Piston fan he thought was heckling him? A day later, Rush used that experience as an excuse to attack Detroit and its people. While Mitch does his show from the golden tower of the Fisher Building in Detroit, Rush stays in his mansion in Palm Beach, far, far away from the people that Mitch goes out of the way and helps.

The world needs more Mitch Alboms, but Rush Limbaughs. It's a shame that Mitch's show didn't last long on syndication, especially in the sea of right-winged whack jobs who do nothing but bitch about Obama for three hours. I think with the problems Rush is facing, we should see more Mitch Alboms on the radio in the future. It's time we get these Nazis off the air and replace them with people with brains and take action.

Maybe Rush's long-abandoned sponsors will want to give Mitch a chance.
