Once again, America is going to be stuck with another presidential election where the two candidates aren't the best people.
Or in South Park terms, Turd Sandwich and Giant Douche.
Yesterday, Bernie Sanders announced that he was dropping out of the 2020 Democratic race. Joe Biden had taken a considerable lead in the polls, ending all hope for Sanders to win the 2020 Democratic nomination for president.
In his speech, the 78-year-old independent Vermont Senator thanked all of his supporters and those who turned out for his rallies. Here in Grand Rapids recently, he and Jesse Jackson spoke in front of over 7,000 people.
Despite his hugely-attended rallies, Sanders still lost Michigan. However, he had 20,000 less people supporting him in 2016. IMHO, it wouldn't shock me if some of the 838,000 Biden supporters also supported Drumpf in 2016.
The sad situation was that the cards were definitely against Sanders. The media bashed him and the Democratic establishment created a strategy where there were simply too many centralists in the kitchen. Once one failed, they'd support another centralist and so on until Joe Biden became the darling of the Democrats.
Let's also not forget that Bernie had a heart attack not long ago. With that, his advanced age and the COVID-19 pandemic, it has affected his ability to campaign and if elected, lead. Now with the pandemic on full blast, killing over 16,000 Americans, it would have been nice to have a true progressive fix this situation full scale.
If there's anything the Repukes are good for, it's ignorance. Hoover's ignorance started the Great Depression. Reagan's heartless bigotry towards gays made the AIDS epidemic worse. And yes, there's Bush's use of 9/11 to cause 3,000 people to die that day and many more first responders who got cancer from the dust spewed at them sift through the rubble.
When Drumpf became president, I knew that we were going to start seeing bad shit happen economically toward the end of his first term. And boy, was I BEYOND right! Already in my neck of the woods, three restaurants have permanently closed. Two of them, Logan's Roadhouse and Old Chicago have closed all their locations for good. The other is a TGI Friday's.
The sad reality is that when this pandemic ends, MULTIPLE businesses will be closed for good. For an example, movie theaters. Rumors are swirling that the nation's largest cinema operator, AMC might file for bankruptcy soon. Since the pandemic started, they have not been able to show movies. Same goes with other theater operators big and small. Recently, Grand Rapids-based Goodrich Quality Theaters filed for bankruptcy. The fact that Hollywood has released many of their current films online will definitely hurt many cinemas, including smaller, one or two-screen theaters that usually wait a month after a film's release so they could contractually show it for a week.
Same with malls, clothing stores, furniture stores (bankrupt Art Van's already closed here in Michigan forever) and other non-essential businesses. Today, it was revealed that 16 million Americans are now unemployed. True, the government's paying $600 more per week, but it sucks that once COVID-19 is long gone and America's back to work, many will have some VERY tough decisions to make if their place of work is forever closed because of the pandemic.
Early today, I read a very interesting Facebook post. It read "Voting for Jill Stein did not get Trump elected. The Democratic Party rigging the primaries got Trump elected." Well, I hate to break it to you, but it's correct. You see, only one real person votes for the Republicans and they're conservatives. Democrats, on the other hand seem to have a bigger boat of types of people, from middle class machinists to white collar types to poor people. However, the Dems have totally forgotten about what happened 91 years ago, and it was the start of the Great Depression. Hell, as a little girl, my grandmother's family was so broke that her mother would dump ketchup into boiling water and call it "tomato soup". Of course, FDR was elected in 1933. Thanks to his progressive politics, we now had unions, 40-hour work weeks, minimum wage, social security and so much more. If World War II didn't happen and he didn't die in office, we'd have free healthcare and affordable colleges by now.
Since the days of Reagan, the two-party system has been rigged. Billionaires run our country, not us. We finally had somebody like Bernie Sanders who channeled FDR to run for president. However, the media persuaded us to think that he was a crazy old man. But, that's what happens when we have a media not run by the people. The big three cable news channels are run by giant corporations that insert bias over fact. News-Talk radio has overdosed itself on angry old white baby boomers who spit on those of my generation and younger. Maybe, just maybe, it only makes me happy that I blog my opinions since I tend to make a helluva lot more sense since this very site has no real advertisers.
For that, I'll say this: I definitely won't vote for Drumpf. And guess what? I don't care for Biden, either. He's an ass-kisser to the wealthy, he's pro-war and he won't do a damn thing to help with healthcare. I might as well vote for the Green Party candidate this Fall.
But, there's a compromise.
If Old Man Biden chooses a progressive for his running mate, it will boost my chances of voting for him. I know he's hinting at a woman. Oddly enough, when Elizabeth Warren dropped out of the race, she, being a self-proclaimed progressive didn't endorse anybody. Might she be the woman Biden has in mind? If so, I'd be scared. Let's not forget that she pissed off the Native Americans for claiming that she was one of them, though she isn't. Plus, she LIED about Bernie Sanders telling her that women couldn't run for president.
I know. Our country cannot afford four more years of an asshole who would rather listen to a wealthy televangelist over a scientist. This is why I think by this weekend, America will overtake Italy in COVID-19-related deaths. But you know, I feel that because they no longer listen to the middle class, the Democrats need to be punished. This is why if Biden doesn't choose a real progressive as his running mate, I'll be going Green Party in November. Besides, if Drumpf (sadly) wins again, it will clear the way for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to run for president in 2024 when she's old enough.
In the end, the lesser of two evils will still be evil.
