He bombed in Tulsa, got sued in Austin and tanked in Chicago.
But now, HUUUUUUGE is getting a HUUUUGE ass-kicking in Grand Rapids by that *other* sports station.
The Winter Arbitron book came out a few weeks ago for Grand Rapids, and poor 'ol Bill Simonson's turning into an also-ran and fast. In the male 18-49 demo, he's tied for 5th place while his competition, ESPN 96.1's Sean and Terp is #2.
Even worse, in the male 25-54 demo, WBBL is in 8th place! In both demos for the afternoon slot, #1 went to WGRD and their afternoon man, Dahmer.
Oh, and Sean and Terp is third place in that demo, too.
With three out of their five Grand Rapids stations with underwhelming ratings, it makes me wonder if when Cumulus buys Citadel, that BOTH Hanlon and HUUUUGE will get the boot. I'll betcha that Citadel is paying HUUUUUGE a HUUUUGE wage, and it's not worth the Little Caesars ads that he's reading. For years, Citadel has been jamming this racist, lying loser down the throats of the people of Grand Rapids and the listeners have spoken. Granted, I've never listened to Sean and Terp, but if the listeners think they're better, they're better.
Oh, I even read that WBBL's morning show, Grey and Bakita are getting the same ratings Opie and Anthony got when they were on their predecessor, WKLQ. No wonder why Grey moved to Omaha.
In the end, Hanlon's probably kicking himself in the ass knowing that he killed KLQ and GRD's getting the ratings, and it was because Clear Channel took the ESPN franchise and was about to stick it on FM, killing WBBL at 1340. But guess what? He lost both ways. The only thing saving WBBL is their coverage of Detroit sporting events, and that's it. Besides, WKZO 590 Kalamazoo comes in loud and clear here in Grand Rapids, and they don't air promos with the HUUUUGE loser, as far as I know.
I guess he'll be trading in that Miller Lite for Old Style.
