Today, a record was made.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed over 22,000 for the first time ever in its history. Many are thanking a strong economy and low unemployment for making this a reality.
But the $64,000 Question is, how long will it last? And is it safe for one to proclaim this old phrase?
Yes, we have a lot to be thankful for right now: gas prices are nowhere near the $4 per gallon monstrosity we were paying ten years ago and food prices overall are lower. But sadly, the average American worker's wages have only gone up .5% in the past several years. As a matter of fact, the American minimum wage hasn't gone up since 2009.
So why haven't many Americans seen any type of wage increase? Simple: it's those damn Republicans who think that most who receive minimum wage are just teens and they claim that it'll hurt small businesses where the owner makes less than minimum wage. In fact, paying a higher wage would close the gap between the boss and his worker, especially in the case of major retailers like Walmart where the Walton family is worth over $20 billion a piece while their workers work for peanuts.
The truth is, Republicans don't care about the average American. Hell, look at Drumpf, who won because his supporters were gullible and voted for a man who lied to us about saving American jobs from moving to Mexico, only to all have them automated.
With the Repukes trying to fuck us all, I hope this will mark a rebirth next year. It's time to create a government For the People and by the people. the Repukes only work for the wealthy and methinks that by this time next year, everything that Obama worked for will be crashing extremely hard into the ground.
But hey! At least we now have an aircraft carrier named for Gerald Ford that costed us taxpayers $13 billion, right?---
