Last night was another historic night for the Academy Awards.

For the first time in its history, a foreign language movie, "Parasite" won Best Picture. The South Korean film's director, Bong Joon-ho won the award for Directing. It also won Best Foreign Film and Best Original Screenplay.

For American films, it wasn't all bad news. "Joker" won Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix and Best Original Score for Hildur Guonadottir, Renee Zellweger won Best Actress for "Judy" and the Best Supporting Actor Oscar went to Brad Pitt for the Quentin Tarantino love letter to the 1960s, "Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood". Best Supporting Actress went to Laura Dern for her role in the Netflix flick "Marriage Story".

Yes, it's true: all four acting Oscars went to whites this year, which has once again caused many to throw out the hashtag known as #oscarssowhite. But, people of color were well represented in this year's ceremony. Of course, the Best Director was an Asian and the Best Animation Short Film Oscar went to an African American and former NFL player Matthew A. Cherry for "Hair Love". To further prove Oscar's diversity, this year's Best Original Song was written and performed by a gay man, Elton John.

But, for too many, it's not enough.

Natalie Portman raised eyebrows with a Christian Dior cape listing the names of female directors she felt were snubbed by the Academy. The names included Lorene Scafaria ("Hustlers"), Greta Gerwig ("Little Women"), Mati Diop ("Atlantique") and "Queen & Slim"'s Melina Matsoukas, just to name a few. However, many pointed out that Portman herself is a hypocrite because her production company - handsomecharlie films (named after her late dog and not after me, sadly) - has made several films since its foundation over a decade ago and only one female has directed for them: herself.

Look, blacks should not be treated differently than whites and whites shouldn't be treated differently than blacks. Same with men and women, gays and straights and so on. Remember last year's Best Picture winner, "Green Book"? It was an awesome movie about how African Americans - even those who were well-behaved - were treated like shit in the 1960s. But guess what? Some people shunned the movie because it was told through the eyes of a white man. I'll admit, the movie was quite educational since I never even heard of the Green Book - which was a list of gas stations, restaurants, motels and other amenities that were friendly towards folks of color during segregationist times - before the movie was released.

Plus, Matthew A. Cherry should definitely be damn proud of his Oscar. Eighty years ago, his award usually went to either Walt Disney or MGM. Both studios were known for putting out films loaded with racist humor. Of course, MGM's Tom and Jerry shorts had a character named "Mammy Two Shoes" who was a black maid. True, "Hair Love" lacks the typical gags found in old 1940s cartoons - i.e. anvils landing on heads, characters falling off a cliff and getting blown up by TNT - but it shows the dedication a father has for her daughter, even if the mother isn't around. The film was funded by hundreds of people on Kickstarter and the results are very desirable. Of course, way more desirable than a steaming pile of shit made by a has-been pedophile animator from the 1990s.

IMHO, the Academy doesn't need to make changes to please anybody. Yes, some films do get shunned. I thought Eddie Murphy was brilliant in "Dolemite is My Name". Adam Sandler proved that he's well-above making baby noises in "Uncut Gems". Two great films that didn't get any Oscar attention. "Parasite" only grossed $35 million in America. I'll betcha it never played in a lot of smaller towns, like the area where my dad lives in Kentucky, where the only movie theater has just eight screens. But, that's life.

The Detroit Lions have never been in the Super Bowl. I don't expect the NFL to give them anything because they suck. They just need to prove themselves.
