The late, great Ed Schultz never wore a medal around his neck.
But, he deserved one.
Thirty years ago, Big Eddie was a TV sportscaster and radio talk show host in Fargo, ND. He was passionate about sports, but also was an asskisser to conservatives like Ronald Reagan.
But a trip to The Salvation Army changed his life forever.
One of Ed's callers talked about how Reagan and his policies caused so many people to lose their jobs. Those policies hurt Fargo hard, forcing people to seek refuge in homeless shelters and food banks. Schultz himself drove by a Salvation Army soup kitchen and there was a line of people wrapped around a city block. This shook Ed to the point where he no longer looked up to Reagan, but also criticizing Bill Clinton for not doing enough to fix the problem.
Eventually, Schultz would find his calling as a progressive talker from America's Heartland. With the launch of Air America in 2004 to provide Americans with an alternative to right wing propaganda radio, that and Schultz's show delivered the type of radio normal Americans wanted. Even when AA dissolved six years later, Schultz's show still thrived, even when he moved to the infamous "prime time" slot of noon to 3 p.m. He even had his own show on MSNBC, one of the highest-rated on the network.
However, Schultz stopped his radio show in 2014 to focus on his TV program. But in 2015, Schultz was fired from MSNBC. He later revealed that the reason was because MSNBC - owned by media giant Comcast - objected him for covering Bernie Sanders' campaign for president. Soon, he resurfaced on Russian-owned RT America where he hosted a few shows. According to Schultz, he claimed that RT simply had more journalistic freedom.
Ed Schultz died in 2018 at the age of 64 from natural causes. He did win a few broadcasting-related awards, but nothing as big as the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
True, Schultz was under fire for calling Laura Ingraham a "talk slut" in 2011, but otherwise, he cared about people. When he did his podcast, he did it on the streets as opposed to being in a studio. But the fact that Rush Limbaugh - who coined the term "feminazi" and shunned laborers - is now in the same boat as Rosa Parks, the now-passed Kirk Douglas and Mother Teresa is truly damning to the likes of Schultz and others. As a matter of fact, Blimpo's only the third radio personality to win the medal, the other two being Lowell Thomas and Paul Harvey.
Limbaugh was awarded the medal Tuesday night during Drumpf's State of the Union. On Monday, the 69-year-old pill-popping, prostitute-fucking sack of shit announced on his show that he's battling stage four lung cancer. Rush is known for being a cigar connoisseur and a defender of the tobacco industry.
What's funny is that the man who handed Rush the medal was a long-time guest of Howard Stern's. But since Stern did not support Drumpf in the 2016 election, plus the fact that Stern had Hillary Clinton as a guest on his show recently might have pissed off Drumpf a little too much.
Not even Nancy Pelosi's ripping of her copy of the State of the Union could stop Drumpf. As we all know by now, the Senate Repukes gave Drumpf one more chance by acquitting him. So now, I guess the only way of getting him out of office is for vote against him this Fall.
With the Caucus bullshit in Iowa, I hope Bernie Sanders' road to the presidency isn't as hard as it seems. But, the DNC will bullshit their way to make sure that an establishment-type will be chosen and not chosen by the people. If that happens, Drumpf will be a two-termer and we'll be in a full recession by 2024 like 2008. Trust me. Macy's is closing 125 stores. Don't tell me that the economy's getting better when minimum wage hasn't increased in 11 years.
Because of the bullshit that's wrecked our government, we're stuck with an asshole conservative with a medal around his neck and not a noose.
