Bee-otch of the Day: the broadcasting industry

King Chuck talks about in this podcast...

*Lansing's Fox affiliate, WSYM 47 is being sold to Gray Media in a trade with Scripps. Gray already owns NBC WILX 10. Since Nexstar owns CBS WLNS 6 and through its puppet company Mission Broadcasting, ABC WLAJ 53, It will leave Lansing with just two companies running the town's commercial TV stations.

*Since the Telecommunications Act of 1996, media consolidation has cost countless jobs.

*Chuck gives a small history of the Lansing market. WLNS was previously WJIM-TV, but was sold off after a scandal that could have revoked the station's license. WILX was forced to share time with MSU's educational TV station on channel 10. Because of weird reasons, Lansing did not get a real ABC affiliate until 1990.

*Cadillac/Traverse City's CBS station, WWTV 9&10's new studio is a total disaster. They're even airing promos that attack misinformation with the slogan "Better Begins With Us". Yet, they made the mistake of hiring a woman who spread untrue conspiracies a few years ago. Plus, they had a power outage this morning.

*In all, the less competition TV and radio stations have, the worse we're all off.
