4.4.17 Bee-otch of the Day: Bill O'Reilly

--
The biggest star of the worst news channel on TV is not having a good week.

And yep, it's his fault.

Bill O'Reilly is in the middle of a sexual harassment scandal where he allegedly paid five women $13 million in hush money as early as 2002. Until now, two of the cases were made public, with of them dealing with the O'Reilly Factor host apparently masturbating while on the phone with one of his victims. Another case dealt with a woman whom he sued when she threatened to sue him for $60 million.

Now, two Fox News reporters, Rebecca Diamond and Laurie Dhue plus a producer for the network all have settled with O'Reilly and Fox. The producer, Rachel Witlieb Bernstein claimed that O'Reilly verbally abused her. Gee, where have I heard this before? Oh, yeah....

The sexual harassment claims come after O'Reilly's former boss, Roger Ailes was let go from the network because of a similar situation with anchor Gretchen Carlson. O'Reilly defended Ailes on his show, claiming that he was the best boss he ever had. All this while his own battles with Fox News female employees lingered on.

Because of all the claims, 14 advertisers have all yanked their ads from his show. Among them include automakers BMW, Mercedes Benz and Hyundai plus drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline, insurer Allstate, Credit Karma and Ainsworth, the company behind Rachel Ray's pet food line.

Of course, O'Reilly might be Fox News Channel's biggest asset, the truth is that, well, look at what happened to Glenn Beck. He also had a top-rated show on FNC and he lost major advertisers when he accused President Obama of being a racist. In the end, he left that network to form the very-low-rated The Blaze cable channel. Now, it's O'Reilly's turn.

Folks, Bill O'Reilly is as useless as tits on a bull. The dude doesn't want to talk about the allegations, yet, his own daughter witnessed him beating up his wife. He's very seedy indeed. Since FNC forces cable operators to pay substantial fees to carry their dreck, It's one huge reason why I've been without cable for almost six years. If I want to watch a show, I'm thankful for Chromecast, thank you muchly.

O'Reilly's spin stops here.

Not all big media companies are American.

Last Thursday, listeners of legendary alt-rocker CIMX/89X were shocked to hear that many of the station's DJs were all let go after their owner, Bell Media, closed their Detroit area studio and office.

The firings include morning man Cal Cagno, his sidekick Gillian Riley, midday jock Phil Kukawinski and afternooner Reed Petitpren. Approximately 20 staffers - jocks, management and promotions crew - were all pink-slipped simply because they were American.

Not all of 89X's jocks saw the door; night jock Mark McKenzie and station programmer Phat Matt - both Canadians - are still under 89X's employ.

Sadly, the worst of the firings was the legendary Cristina, who was the host of the long-running Time Warp show. The Sunday morning program showcased alternative classics from the 70s into the 90s. She had been one of 89X's longest-running jocks, starting as an intern in 1991, the same year 89X itself was born.

89X debuted on May 13, 1991 with the Jane's Addiction classic "Stop!". With grunge taking over the mainstream, it soon took some of top 40 stations WHYT 96.3 and 99.5 The Fox's ratings. Three years later, 96.3 flipped to alternative themselves as Planet 96.3. Soon, Detroit was loaded with new rock and alternative stations such as The Edge @ 105dot1 and 97.1 K-Rock. Throughout the years, 89X's ratings fluctuated, depending on competition. Up until a few years ago, the X had decent ratings until long-time morning show Dave and Chuck the Freak crossed the border and went to WRIF. Since losing D&CTC to The Riff, 89X's ratings have fallen around 50%; as a matter of fact, their last Nielsen book at them at a gravely poor 1.6 share, making them the lowest-rated FM music station in the Detroit area.

Personally, I put a lot of the blame regarding 89X's pathetic ratings on their inept Canadian owners, Bell Media. Since taking over their Windsor stations - also including 93.9 The River, CKLW and CKWW - 89X has been a shadow of itself. Lame morning show, lame jocks that sound worse than some jocks in northern Michigan and a weird music mix. The wussy "One Thing" by Finger Eleven into the legendary "Killing in the Name" by Rage Against the Machine? Please.

But sadly, a lot of the problems are beyond Bell's reach. Because they are a Canadian station, 89X must play a certain amount of Canadian tunes; in the 5 p.m. hour today, Arcade Fire (Quebec), Billy Talent (Ontario), Finger Eleven (Ontario), Smashing Satellites (Ontario) and Coleman Hell (Ontario) were all played. Five out of 12 artists that hour = 42% CanCon. Nice enough to please the Canadian government, but hey! Who in America likes Billy Talent, anyway?

(And for the record, I do like Canadian bands. Rush rules!)

Another issue is the fact that they had a studio in the Detroit area. Apparently, it's a no-no to have an American studio for a Canadian radio station. But since 1) Detroit has far more people than Windsor and 2) 89X's ratings are apparently better in America over Canada, shouldn't that actually PLEASE the Canadian government? If 89X has good ratings, that means good ad revenue and more American money given to the Canadians! DUUUUUH!

But in the meantime, if a radio company in Detroit was smart, they'd give alternative a try. No forced CanCon and an actual street presence in the Detroit area. How about 106.7 The Drive? Nash 93.1?

Time to ring Bell's bell and X out the X.

3.30.17 Bee-otch of the Day: The Republican Party

For years, the Democrats claimed that the letters "GOP" stood for "Get Old People" since they want to eliminate Social Security.

Now, if you're a woman, it stands for "Grabbing Our Pussies".

Today, the Senate voted 51-50 to allow states to cut funding to organizations that perform abortions, namely Planned Parenthood. Two female Republican senators, Maine’s Susan Collins and Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski voted with the Democrats against the bill. The final vote was 50-50 and vice president Mike Pence made the deciding vote.

The bill is now headed to Drumpf, who is expected to sign it.

Some believe that the bill was created over a doctored video showing a Planned Parenthood employee claiming that the organization sells aborted fetuses. The makers of the video were all imprisoned for defaming the organization.

Right now, eleven states have similar laws that curb funding for PP and similar organizations.

Today, Democrats all claimed that the bill was yet another GOP attack on women. There is already a federal ban on abortion funding unless it's an emergency.

You know, I'm tired of the GOP's logic when it comes to abortion and women's rights. Yesterday, I talked about how Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch - an enemy against abortion - ruled in favor of a trucking company who fired a trucker for abandoning his freight. He was in a semi that had no heat and it was -14 degrees outside and he almost literally froze to death. The GOP also will do everything to fight anti-gun laws, yet it's easier to get a gun than mental health care. For the Repukes, it's all about the fetus, but once you're outside the womb, fuck you.

I REALLY can't wait till 2018. Time to kick the assholes out.

Last weekend, I was reading a sad article from the Detroit Free Press.

The story was about Alphonse Maddin, a man who once worked for the Big Three automakers as a designer. However, the 2008 recession hit, causing him to switch careers. He became a trucker for TransAm, which is based in Kansas.

One night eight years ago, he was hauling a freight of meat through Illinois when he was running low on fuel. He called his dispatch and asked where to fill up. While he was pulled over, the brakes to his trailer froze. He called roadside assistance for help and told him that they would come. So, Maddin decided to lay down in his bunker. However, three hours later, he was awaken by his cell phone going off. It was a family member checking on him. When he answered the phone, his body was numb and could barely talk. The heater to his big rig was broken and the temperature in his cab was a bone-chilling -14 degrees. Maddin was scared that he was going to die. He called roadside assistance again and they told him "just hang in there". He couldn't take it anymore, so he had no choice to put matters into his own hands.

Alphonse got out of his cab and unhitched the disabled trailer, filled with thousands of dollars of meat. He was able to get his cab to a gas station where he fueled up and warmed up. He got back to the trailer where the brakes where repaired and he was on his way to make his deliveries. However, bad news was waiting for him in Kansas.

Three TransAm employees cordoned Maddin to come to a room, where he was fired. The company found out that Maddin abandoned his freight, a cardinal sin in the trucking industry. Maddin ended up pressing charges against TransAm under the Surface Transportation Assistance Act, which prohibits trucking firms from firing their workers for refusing to drive an unsafe truck. The case went in front of several judges over the years, and last year the 10th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Maddin 2-1. The court ordered TransAm to rehire Maddin, who instead settled for back pay.

Despite having two college degrees, Maddin, 48 is living with family and friends until he can get back on his feet. However, while doing an internet search recently, he found out about the only judge who voted against him in favor of TransAm.

And guess who it is? None other than Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch.

In his statement regarding Maddin's case, Gorsuch wrote, "A trucker was stranded on the side of the road, late at night, in cold weather, and his trailer brakes were stuck. He called his company for help and someone there gave him two options. He could drag the trailer carrying the company's goods to its destination, Or he could sit and wait for help to arrive. The trucker chose None of the Above, deciding instead to unhook the trailer and drive his truck to a gas station. In response, his employer, TransAm, fired him for disobeying orders and abandoning its trailer and goods."

However, in Senate conformation hearings, Gorsuch claimed that it's his job not to write the law but rather to enforce it.

So in other words, what Maddin did was illegal in Gorsuch's opinion and deserved to be fired, although his only other option was to freeze to death literally. Nice.

And yet, this asshole wants to chip away at abortion rights while real live humans suffer.

Folks, this is what happens when Repukes are in charge. In 2005, I had 400-degree glue poured on my arm at work. My shop didn't have a supervisor and nobody told me to go to the hospital. I ended up dumping a ton of Neosporan and gauze on my wound. The next day, my boss looked at my THIRD DEGREE burn and simply said "oh, I'm sorry," and walked away. Finally, after two weeks of the burn still oozing and pussing out, my boss finally told me to go to the occupational clinic where they gave me ointment that cleared up the burn. Twelve years later, My burn is still visible. Of course, my ex-boss was a pure asshole who also never gave me a real raise in the 10 1/2 years I busted my ass for him. Then again, with BusHitler running the show for most of the years I worked for him and the economy in the shitter most of the time, I had no real choice.

Now, we have another Repuke in the White House and he's proving to us all that companies are more important than people. Of course, he thinks he's creating jobs - especially by rebooting the coal industry - but they'll find a way to get around the law so we all get screwed while the 1% wins. But once again, don't look at me because I didn't vote for the guy.

The good news is that the Democrats are banding together to filibuster Gorsuch's nomination. Our country cannot afford leadership that only cares about big business over us. I cannot wait until next year so we can start taking Drumpf's power away from him. I hope the House and Senate have a Democratic majority in 2018 so we can totally shut his wealthy ass down.

And in the end, the Alphonse Maddins of the world will all be happy.

3.28.17 Bee-otch of the Day: Donald Trump

Bee-otched For: making us sing this song

--When George W. Bush ignored the warning signs in regards to 9/11, he became the deadliest president in history.

Because of his ignorance and stupidity, 3,000 people died on 9/11 and 4,000+ more died in the wars he helped to create. Of course, thousands of people will die from the injuries and PTSD that his wars gave them. There was even a saying in regard to Dubya: Bush Lied, People Died.

Now, it's Drumpf's turn. This time, we might all die all because some hillbillies want easy jobs.

Today, the de facto president signed an executive order reversing President Obama's anti-global warming laws. In other words, this means that this country will invest more in industries that will pollute and make the world sick. He's also asking for a massive increase of the production of coal, which is good news for those who live in West Virginia and other coal-happy states, but it's bad news for those wanting us to wean off of clean energy, such as wind turbines and solar power.

According to Drumpf's edict, the Environmental Protection Agency will no longer be allowed to interfere with "jobs" and "profits". The EPA is practically being reduced to only protecting clean air and water, which will come to a screeching halt when the Dakota Access Pipeline spews all over Lake Oahe and Line 5 bursts under the Straits of Mackinac.

But that's Drumpf. I love the fact that the Repukes are all about "jobs" and "eliminating laws" that prevent job creation, though it'll mean a weaker planet and more injuries and even deaths on the job. Then again, we're all gonna die under Drumpf, folks. These are scary times and with more pollution in the air, this will equate to ANYTHING but clean air and water.

We only have one place to live, folks. If we lose Earth, than where else?

He's only been our de facto president for just over two months, and damn is he getting burned.

Last Friday, Drumpf's promise of repealing and replacing Obamacare came to a crashing halt because Congress couldn't come to a decision on what to do with the plan. This, of course, is added to other Trump failures such as banning Muslims from entering the country and other attempted scribblings to the Constitution that have been erased by judges and fellow politicians alike.

The question is, what would have Trumpcare or Ryancare or whatever be like? As somebody who has been screwed over by Republican health plans before, all I can say is that this is what's expected with a Repuke in the White House.

With Obamacare still law, it allows those with no health coverage to get it. True, premiums are on the rise, but that's because there's young people who would rather pay the penalty vs. have insurance because they're healthy. With the Baby Boomers retiring and going to the doctor more often, it's no surprise that people are paying more at the doctors these days.

Folks, we need the ACA because it's better than what we had ten years ago: people dying because they had crappy health insurance and were rejected for life-saving surgeries because of pre-existing conditions. What we REALLY need is single payer healthcare that would make healthcare in America as cheap as other countries. But oh, no! We can't have it as long as Drumpf as president! It would mean *GASP* raising taxes on the wealthy!

But instead of moving forward, we're moving backward because of Drumpf and his policies. And at a 37% approval rating, I think people are anxious for the next election to come up so the right-winged assholes in charge will get shitcanned out of government.

But in the interim, at least, Drumpf will realize that even though he's the most-powerful man in the free world, he's weak and powerless.
