October 3rd, 2009 was a date that will live in my history in somewhat infamy.

It was the date I went and saw Capitalism: A Love Story, which was Michael Moore's last movie. The movie he did beforehand, Sicko, wasn't the hit it should have been, especially after the monstrous success of Fahrenheit 9/11. Then again, it did have a lower theatre count, thanks to the idiot doctor who bought Lions Gate just to fuck things up.

It was a good crowd for Capitalism. But on the same token, most of the crowd comprised of blue hairs. I thought I was in an old folks home! How can a young 28 year old stand this? Where were the young punks who needed to learn a thing or two about politics from Mr. Moore?

Well, tragically, they went and saw Zombieland instead. Ya know, that horror comedy starring Woody Harrelson about a zombie apocalypse? That film made over $100 million in the box office. Capitalism, OTOH, only made $17 million. The funny thing is the fact that Zombieland was distributed by Columbia Pictures, which is owned by Japanese media giant Sony. Funny, because as we all know, the Japanese have taken over our industrial base, making higher-quality electronics and even cars. Part of the reason why was because it was President Roosevelt's staff who helped to rebuild that country after we bombed them during World War II. The same thing happened to England and Germany.

Yes, I learned that from Capitalism, distributed by Overture Films, which is owned by Liberty Media, which is, yes, American and also owns the Starz cable network, QVC, the Atlanta Braves baseball team and part of Sirius/XM.

Just two years after he took over the presidency, President Obama had a very, very bad day on Tuesday after the House had shifted back to the Republicans. Thankfully, the Senate was saved, but the feud between him and new house speaker John Boehner could be interesting. Many felt that the president's sub-par approval rating was the reason. But maybe, just maybe, there were a few folks absent from Tuesday's polls: the young people.

According to statistics, only about 10% of those approximately 18-34 voted on Tuesday. It was the youngin's - alongside another group of people who helped Obama in 2008, African Americans - who weren't present Tuesday during this important midterm. Hell, when I went to the poll on Tuesday, I was in and out like a prom dress. Plus - you guessed it - my polling place was a geezer land.

The question is, why? Just because Obama's not getting voted on doesn't mean that we can't vote. After all, the president can't save this nation alone. Even worse, I'm still bummed that our state voted in a rotten CEO, Rick Snyder as our next governor. Where's the young people to help Virg Bernero?

Thing is, maybe the Dems should have done ads on MTV and other young people-oriented media to encourage them to vote, even in midterms. After all, the economy STILL sucks because of Bush and young people are especially hurting. However, they seem not to care. All they care about is trying to master "Carry On Wayward Son" in Guitar Hero and wondering who'll win American Idol. Hell, I'm pissed that POS show gets more votes than that of any election in American history. 60 million votes for a singer who will fall into obscurity in five years. Sad.

In closing, let me say this to ANY 20-something, or ANYBODY reading this: if I ever catch you on the street, holding a sign that reads "Rick Snyder took my job" and you beg for change, I WILL ask you if you voted in 2010.

And if your response is either "uhhhh, no" or "Rick", my response will be "sucks to be you".
