2.9.17 Bee-otch of the Day: terrestrial radio

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday, Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Friday on Chuck69.com.

----------

Name: terrestrial radio
Age: 97
Occupation: supposed entertainers and informers of the general public
Last Seen: everywhere
Bee-otched For: putting money first and people last

---

Ten years ago, three young children in the Sacramento area lost their mother and a man lost his wife because she did something simple:

She drank water.

A ton of it.

The reason: she, 28-year-old Jennifer Strange was trying to win a Nintendo Wii - which was hard to find at the time - as part of radio station KDND/107.9 The End's infamous "Hold Your Wee For a Wii" contest. She and other contestants drank ungodly amounts of water and she ended up with a massive headache. She went home and an hour later, her own mother found her dead.

She had consumed two gallons of water.

As a result, ten employees from KDND - including the morning show - were let go and Strange's family were rewarded $16.5 million in damages. The FCC announced that they would investigate KDND to see if their license would be appropriate for renewal. Instead, the station's owner found an easy way out.

Recently, it was announced that KDND's parent, Entercom was buying CBS Radio and since KDND was a roadblock in the way to FCC approval, they felt that the only way to get it to pass was to simply send the station's license back to the FCC and silence 107.9 for good. But of course, that didn't kill The End; they simply moved the station to 106.5, formerly "Mix 106.5", an underperforming Hot AC station. The End lives, especially since the FCC could care less about intellectual property and rather the frequency itself. In a way, this has got to be a slap in the face to the Strange family, who had probably hoped to see the end of The End.

True, Entercom is one of a few radio companies that's actually doing OK ($14.70 per share vs. around a buck each for iHeartMedia (Clear Channel) and Cumulus), but it's sad when radio companies once again put the almighty dollar in front of what listeners really want.

Last week, it was announced that up in Petoskey, long-time news/talker WJML 1110 and WJNL 1210 Kingsley/Traverse City were being sold to John Yob for $700,000. Yob is a GOP strategist who worked for Rick Snyder's gubernatorial campaigns, plus the failed presidential campaigns for John McCain and Rand Paul. He made headlines last year when lied about his residency to get voting rights in the Virgin Islands and had his voting rights revoked. Now, he gets to own what's left of what once was northern Michigan's #1 radio station 40 years ago.

Back in the 1970s, WJML was The Music Station, noted for being northern Michigan's first true 24/7 Top 40 station. Before WJML, northern Michiganders got their hit music sound from 50KW AM giants from Detroit and Chicago plus what little other northern Michigan stations offered at the time. WJML remained popular until the early 80s until being overtaken in the ratings by up-and-comer 106 KHQ. WJML spent most of the 80s as an AC station until Northern Broadcast purchased the station in 1991. 98.9 flipped to a simulcast of WKLT 97.5 Traverse City while 1110 fell silent. However, 1110 and the WJML name were sold to Rick Stone, who ended up owning the station for 25 years. Stone allegedly has been trying to sell WJML/WJNL for years, so I don't blame him for wanting to sell to whomever wanted it.

Sadly, as long as I can remember, WJML as a talk station hasn't really had any ratings. I think their best book had them at a 1.1. Hell, the only talk station that actually has ratings up north is WTCM.  What's funny is that WJNL doesn't simulcast WJML some of the time because they're in an agreement with fledgling WYPV/94.5 "The Patriot Voice" to carry some of their shows.

What's even more sad is that Stone traded former sister station WARD 750 for WJNL, which ended up killing the progressive talk format in northern Michigan. Stone told the press that he would be keeping some shows, but instead, he canceled them (for instance, Ed Schultz was replaced with Alex Jones).

The sad thing is that radio should be for the public interest, but instead of listening to the listeners, we get right-winged crap and a radio contest where people die. This is why people like Pandora, SiriusXM and Spotify, folks. Radio is doing what it can to chase itself to the bottom.

Instead of piss, radio is full of shit.

2.8.17 Bee-otch of the Day: Dan Adamini

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday, Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Friday on Chuck69.com.

----------

Name: Dan Adamini
Age: 56
Occupation: former secretary of the Republican Party/talk radio schmuck
Last Seen: Marquette, MI
Bee-otched For: saying something not-so-nice about rioting students

---

Ya gotta love Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

It's loaded with scenic beauty with lots of forests and waterfalls and even an abandoned IGA. But with a population of only 311,000 and being roughly the same size as its sister lower peninsula, there's not a while lot to do.

Sadly, one of those options is listening to right-winged talk radio. But thankfully, there's one less option on the air in Marquette.

Dan Adamini, who hosted the Saturday morning program In the Right Mind on WDMJ 1320 Marquette and 1240 WIAN Ishpeming stepped down from the brokered show after a mean tweet he made about the riots made recently at University of California-Berkley last week. The riots centered around Milos Yianopoulos, a right-winged journalist for Breitbart whose appearance was canceled as a result.

Adamini tweeted that "another Kent State" would be the solution to stop the riots, but that angered many in the UP. As a result, he has stepped down from the radio show and his role of secretary of the Republican Party in Marquette, a town that's a Democratic stronghold.

His statement read that his statements are now starting to hurt others and that he didn't want to be a distraction to what lies ahead.

It's also worth noting that WDMJ/WIAN is owned by Sovereign Communications, which is co-owned by Tim Sabean, the former head of Howard Stern's Sirius channels. The company owns 17 radio stations, all in the UP. WDMJ/WIAN is one of two right-winged talk stations the company owns.

You know, this is what scares me about alleged gun nuts like Adamini. Killing people is never the answer to a riot. What happened at Kent State in 1970 was pathetic and it shows how shallow Adamini is. Then again, the only thing to do in da You Pee is eat pasties and sleep with your siblings.

Sadly, making stupid tweets seems to be an option.

2.7.17 Bee-otch of the Day: The Republican Party

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday, Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Friday on Chuck69.com.

----------

Name: The Republican Party
Age: 162
Occupation: the right wing
Last Seen: Washington, DC
Bee-otched For: sending the Grim Reaper to our public schools

---

It's official: the woman whose family got strip clubs to close in Grand Rapids, tried to get Howard Stern off the air and tried to keep gay marriage outlawed is now the education secretary of the United States.

After being deadlocked at at 50-50 vote in the senate, all it took was Mike Pence's OK to have Betsy Devos to become the person overlooking education in America. This means that your kid's school will have the Grim Reaper, haunting teachers, kids and faculty alike.

As we all know, Devos never taught a public school nor attended one. She doesn't know how they're run. She thinks that all schools are just like Detroit's: old and falling apart. So, she has this little voucher program that allows kids to attend schools in other towns, giving schools in their hometown a slap in the face.

On this weekend's Saturday Night Live, Kate McKinnon accurately portrayed Devos during the hilarious Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer sketch. It serves Devos right, especially since McKinnon is a lesbian and the Devos family spent over $2 million fighting pro-gay laws.

The only good that came out of the epic vote was that two Republican senators chose not to allow Devos to hold her post. If one more chose to vote yes for Devos, she wouldn't be ES, but noooooo. Because of this, I hope there's a revolution in 2018 where we can kick a lot of these Repukes to the curb and in 2020 when we can do the same to Drumpf and his cronies.

But in the case of Betsy Devos, this Bee-otch is brought to you by the letters F and U.

2.6.17 Heroes of the Day: Super Bowl Trump bashers

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday, Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Friday on Chuck69.com.

SOME SPECIAL HEROES OF THE DAY!
----------

Names: various
Ages: various
Occupations: various
Last Seen: various
Awarded For: telling Trump to suck it at the Super Bowl

---

Another Super Bowl has come and gone for 2017, and I can't believe that the Pats won.

The reasons for hating that team include the fact that their star QB used deflated footballs and cheated, their coach spied on other teams and most of all, both Tom Brady and team owner Robert Kraft are besties with good 'ol Drumpf. As a matter of fact, when Kraft's wife died, Drumpf called him to see how he was coping. A nice gesture from a man who wants to take away your healthcare.

While the Pats' victory was a win for Drumpf, at least the event was a soapbox for those who, well, hate his guts.

Four of the commercials that aired during the game were attacks on his immigration policy. Coca-Cola and Airbnb both had ads that spoke about diversity while Anheuser-Busch had an ad that explained the abuse co-founder Augustus Busch had to endure coming to America and eventually meeting up with co-founder Eberhard Anheuser in St. Louis. But the most-touching ad - the one posted above - was for first-time Super Bowl advertiser 84 Lumber. Only part of the nearly-six-minute ad was seen during the broadcast, claiming that it was banned from airing, but it showed the struggle a Mexican woman and her young daughter face while immigrating to America. In the end, the two's hope of becoming American ends with the sight of Drumpf's $14 billion wall. But thanks to a man with some lumber, some tools and a pickup, the two end up going through a set of doors, doors to freedom.

But the echoes of Drumpf-bashing were not limited to commercials. When it was announced that Lady Gaga was performing at the Halftime Show, the NFL allegedly told her to lay off bashing the fake president. But the performer began her show with "God Bless America" into "This Land Is Your Land", written by Woody Guthrie. Ironically, the song's lyrics include: "There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me. The sign was painted, said 'Private Property.' But on the backside, it didn't say nothing. This land was made for you and me."

The fact that the Super Bowl TRIED to be a bash-free zone failed. Instead, it was something for both sides. The right got the Pats win and George H.W. Bush flipping the game coin and the left got commercials and Gaga. But both got the ghostly return of Spuds McKenzie and Melissa McCarthy getting slammed into a boat, plus a huge lack of sleep.

But hopefully, we got a message that was bigger than football.

1.31.17 Bee-otch of the Day: Gregg "Opie" Hughes

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday, Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Friday on Chuck69.com.

----------

Name: Gregg "Opie" Hughes
Age: 55
Occupation: Stern clone
Last Seen: New York City
Bee-otched For: getting demoted

---

Once upon a time, there was a radio duo named Opie and Anthony.

These two schmucks had a somewhat popular radio show that practically was a knock-off of Howard Stern, except that it wasn't what Howard was, and that was funny. Of course, O&A worked at classic rocker WNEW while Howard was at K-Rock, both CBS O&Os.

Then, O&A crossed the line. During a contest called "Sex For Sam's", two idiot listeners had sex in a Catholic church confession booth and it was broadcast live. The station was slammed with a massive FCC fine and Catholics were pissed. As a result, O&A, WNEW's GM and PD were all canned. Because of all this, the duo ended up going to XM where they were free to offend everybody they wanted to.

Then came that glorious day known as 1.9.06 when Howard Stern moved his radio show to Sirius. Meanwhile, O&A proved to all that their XM gig was worthless when they were re-hired by CBS because without Howard, they were nothing. Even that experiment proved to fail.

In 2014, SiriusXM fired Anthony Cumia because of a racist rant on Twitter when a black woman kicked his ass. A year later, he was charged with beating the shit out of his 26-year-old girlfriend. Since then, O&A haven't talked a whole lot and Opie has been stuck doing his show solo.

Now, the once-proud Opie Channel on SiriusXM has a new name: Faction Talk. The channel is a spin-off of the Faction music channel on SXM, which plays a hybrid of hard rock, punk and hip-hop. Jason Ellis, who had been hosting a show on Faction moves to the new channel.

To Opie, this has got to be embarrassing. Not to mention the fact that he's back in afternoons.

Once upon a time, O&A's army of pests would step on us Stern fans for accusing their heroes of ripping off Stern's show. Hell, one fan was nice enough to tell me that "Opie and Anthony own your soul". Oh, really?

True, Howard only works three days a week now and his show isn't what it was 20 years ago *COUGHMARCITURKCOUGH*, but better Stern over what's left of Opie. True, he had Artie Lange on his show a few months ago and it was a Stern bashfest, but bear in mind that Artie's a frickin' cokehead! No wonder why Howard buried him under the rug!

Opie: even without Anthony, he's a zero.... point.... zero.

1.30.17 Bee-otch of the Day: Donald Trump

Bee-otch of the Day honors are awarded Monday through Thursday, Bee-otch of the Week is awarded Friday on Chuck69.com.

----------

Name: Donald Trump
Age: 70
Occupation: president wannabe
Last Seen: Washington, DC
Bee-otched For: fighting the wrong battles

The greatness known to us all as Drumpf never fails to amaze us.

Last week, the Commander in Chump was nice enough to sign an executive order that would go ahead and build the much-ballyhooed wall on the southern US border north of Mexico. Drumpf has said that Mexico would pay for the wall, but the country's president has rejected it. The wall is expected to cost up to $14 billion to build, so guess what Drumpf is now proposing? Forcing Americans to pay an extra 20% on goods and services made in Mexico. That means everything from cars, electronics and even avocados will go up in price by 20%.

Yes, I said avocados. If I were Qdoba, I'd be fuming.

Of course, Drumpf was nice enough to sign another order banning certain refugees from coming here to America. As a result, thousands protested outside airports such as Gerald Ford here in Grand Rapids. Of course, a federal judge issued an emergency stay on Drumpf's decision.

True story: this past Saturday, I was doing my laundry when a young man walked into my laundry room. He was a black man and I could tell that he was a refugee. The dude was very friendly and noticed that I had two loads of folded clothes that I was about to haul back. He offered to help me, but since my apartment was around the corner, I told him no thanks, but thank you anyway. A day later when WOOD-TV 8 covered the airport protests, I was almost shocked that he was interviewed.

Yes, folks, this is what Drumpf doesn't want in our country: a man who came from another nation on Earth who now calls America home, who is nice enough to carry your clothes back to your apartment when needed. But that's what happens when you have a president in the White House who wasn't even elected, but rather chosen because of a broken system that also got Dubya elected.

Meanwhile, it's expected that Betsy Devos will be elected as Education Secretary tomorrow. All the Democrats are expected to vote no on her and for good reason. As for Drumpf, his pick for Supreme Court nominee will be announced tomorrow night.

You know, Drumpf is sticking to his promises and sadly, it's turning into us vs. the world. He's done more damage in 10 days than Dubya did before 9/11. This is scary, folks. Drumpf thinks that if a healthy apple tree produces a bad apple or two, then the whole tree is bad. Yes, there's a few bad apples out there, but guess what? WE CREATED THEM! When Dubya invaded Iraq over alternative facts regarding WMDs, we went there and destroyed their otherwise normal country. Now, they hate us, hence the rebellion known as ISIS. So what's Drumpf doing? Taking a knife and stabbing the wound even more.

2020 can't come soon enough.
