Looks like President Obama has lost one of his biggest supporters.

And that man is my cousin.

Last weekend, I was in the Detroit area for a family reunion. After it was done, I ended up spending time with my cousin and his girlfriend. We went to Grand Blanc to visit my uncle, and on the way, he gave me somewhat of a shocker: he might not be voting for Obama in 2012.

My cousin has always been on the liberal side, but sadly, Democrats have been cowering to the Repukes for years, and Obama's turning into one of them. Now, thankfully, the President and Congress have agreed to terms that would abandon the country's first financial default. No taxes would be raised and Social Security and Medicare would be spared. However, federal spending would be lowered by $2 trillion over the decade.

Nice, but the sad thing is that like many other situations like these, everything had to be done theatrically so the majority of all Americans would be in fear, hoping and praying that this country's credit rating wouldn't go down to a dreaded AA.

My cousin also mentioned that Obama was voted in because he would end the wars Bush started and create jobs. Yes, he caught Osama, but many of us are either unemployed or underemployed. Plus, we're still fighting in Afghanistan, the longest war we've ever fought. Say, did you hear that GE - despite making $6 billion in the US alone - didn't pay a dime in taxes?

In the end, he feels that this country's not run by either Democrats or Republicans, but rather a man behind the curtain. No matter who you vote for, the outcome's the same: Republicans do it for the money given to them by the fat cats, and the Democrats will abandon their promises as soon as they get their first checks from the big corporations. No matter who you vote for, we're fucked. So, my cousin might go Liberitarian in 2012.

One thing I mentioned my cousin was this: 2000 was the first year I could vote since I was 19. But, I didn't do it, and neither did he. Why? Because the main choices were Bush or Al Gore. Gore could have been a great choice, but since Joe Lieberman was his running mate, voting for me was a bad decision. Many unhappy Democrats agreed, and voted for 3rd party candidates instead. Yes, Gore won the 2000 elections, but Bush became president only because of Florida.

End result: yep.

Personally, I agree with a lot with my cousin. As much as I like Obama, he's proven to be only a so-so leader so far. Then again, it's our damn fault for voting Republican in 2010, causing the President's job to be harder. Instead of getting shit done, the political process becomes an episode of The Jerry Springer Show. I could imagine a donkey and an elephant on stage with Jerry's security trying to break them up while his audience - representing our nation's voters - chant "JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!". We're entertained, but like every episode of Springer, nothing gets solved. Yeah, we might get a Final Thought, but as always, nothing makes a whole lotta sense.

I think the question is simple: can Obama survive 2012? I know he hasn't done much, but I hope so, too. Really. Who wants the likes of Mitt Romney or (BARF) Michele Bachmann or (PUKING BLOOD) Sarah Palin as our next president? Having a third party president might be the answer, but who'll support him? Sadly, in the poor puke world of politics, money wins, just ask Scott Walker and his butt buddies the Koch Brothers or even our beloved Rick Snyder, who spent $10 million on his gubernitorial campaign while Virg Bernero didn't even spend a million. But there are upsets, such as Tom Emmer, who thankfully lost in Minnesota even though retailers Target and Best Buy both spent a lot of money on him. It might have been Emmer's connection to an anti-gay Christian Metal band that cost him the election.

Yes, saying no to Democrat or Republican is nice, but it'll never happen. You can thank the Man Behind the Curtain for that.
