Bee-otched For: changing their name... kinda
---

As I've mentioned on this site before, I recently dumped my cable.

With my job not giving me enough hours and pay and my bills mounting, I figured that if I really wanted to watch something only cable has, there's always the web.

Of course, one thing I'll miss is Red Wings hockey. But, sometimes, when I miss a program, I tend to think of the bad. For one thing, at least I'm not supporting Fox Sports Detroit, which is a division of NewsCorp and the evil Murdoch family. True, the Wings might win a Stanley Cup this season, but maybe when they're in the Finals, it'll be on free over the air TV.

But, there's another reason why my support for the Wings has dramatically fizzled this year: they kinda changed their name.

They are now known as The Detroit Red Wings... Presented by Amway.

Yes, THAT Amway. You know, the company that has people knocking on your door trying to sell snake oil under a pyramid scheme? Yep, that Amway. Bear in mind that the family that runs Amway, the DeVoses, also own the Orlando Magic NBA team, so they're no stranger to sports. The Wings are owned by the Ilitch family, and even though both the family and the team's got some mean bucks, they still had to sell their soul to one of the most-evil companies in the world.

And here's something that really pisses me off: not long ago on their Facebook profile, The Wings showed a picture of an old woman who won tickets for their training camp. The woman's name? Judy Rose. Now, I'm not *totally* sure if this is the same Judy Rose who is behind Grand Rapids' totally-unconstitutional strip club law, but if it is, it's pure proof that Rose is totally in bed with the DeVoses and Amway. After all, I wouldn't be surprised if DeVos threw her the bucks to pass the law, which has killed jobs and tax base for the city.

Let's not forget the other big reason why I don't support Amway: their ties with the Prince family. Dick DeVos is married to the former Betsy Prince, the daughter of the late Edgar and Elza Prince who founded the Prince automotive parts company that made vanity mirrors and computers in cars. The Princes were diehard right-wingers who helped create and fund several fundamentalist Christian groups such as the Family Research Council and the American Decency Association. Many Stern fans know that the ADA was the group known for making fiercely untrue statements about Howard Stern as part of their infamous "Information and Action Page".

But, let's not forget that the Princes also gave us Erik Prince, the little spoiled rich bastard who founded Blackwater/Xe to hunt down innocent Muslims in Afghanistan because Jesus told him to. And that's the American Way, or should I say, Amway.

You know, it was a magical moment when the Wings won their first Stanley Cup in over 50 years in 1997. After years of being throwaways in the NHL, it was Mike Ilitch who guided the team to being hockey's best. But like any businessman, he got greedy and when Amway agreed to slap their name under the logo for the next few years, he took the bait.

Thanks, but I like the Detroit Red Wings over the Detroit Red Wings Presented by Amway. Why would I want to support a business that's kissing the ass of a business that brings so much corruption to the world? Sorry, but Ilitch has sold his soul to the devil on this one. At least the Lions are kicking ass and the Pistons might or might not have a season this year with their new owner. Of course, the Tigers might end up losing against the Rangers as-is.

Oh, well. They'll get eaten again by the Sharks in the playoffs as always.

OK. Once again, I must ask, are you happy that you voted Republican in 2012?

I, for one, can't be blamed on this one.

Just after Labor Day, President Obama announced his job creation bill that would help cure the nation's 9.1% unemployment rate. However, even with a Democratic lead, senate Republicans shot down the almost-half-a-trillion-dollar bill, and some Democrats even crossed party lines, including senate majority leader Harry Reid. Overall, the bill's vote total was 51-49; it needed 60 votes to stay alive.

The bill would have been a win-win for both the wealthy and workers; it would have meant some lower taxes for the rich and more Americans would be given jobs. However, the Republicans basically shot the bill down to once again blame this country's mounting problems on the president. With the 2012 elections only being a little bit less than 13 months away, the Republicans are trying to re-enter the White House with no plans to get the country out of the red. Instead, they want to make rich people richer while all of us end up working minimum wage jobs.

It only shows how out-of-touch ALL Republicans are. We have people protesting everywhere as part of the #occupy movement and they could care less about them. Hell, we have Uncle Tom himself, Herman Cain telling the media that if you can't get a job, it's your fault. Like everybody can own a pizza parlor.

I can't wait until next year. Obama's going to be a two termer. Wait and see. Americans are more fed up with the Tea Party assholes than with the president. It's time to tax the wealthy and if everybody votes Democrat next election, maybe we'll see jobs come back. The party's over for corporate America. Let's get back to work and actually be able to pay our bills.

Remember, the Revolution's just beginning.

10.11.11 Bee-otch of the Day: the religious right

Bee-otched For: claiming victory over the cancellation of The Playboy Club
---

After only three episodes, the doors to The Playboy Club have been shut.

NBC announced last week that due to poor ratings and advertisers pulling out of sponsoring the show, that it was canceled. The program chronicled the happenings of the infamous Chicago club in the early 1960's. It was narrated by Hugh Hefner himself and starred Eddie Cibrian (Mr. LeAnn Rimes) and established movie actress Amber Heard.

Many factors led to the Club's cancellation, mainly ratings. Episode one had only five million viewers, but it had shrunk to 3.5 million by episode three. Tough competition from the other networks - mainly ABC's Dancing With the Stars and ESPN's Monday Night Football - were huge factors in the show's low ratings. Even Hugh Hefner himself posted on Twitter that he was upset over the show's cancellation, claiming that it would have done better on cable.

But sadly, our good friends from the religious right all claimed to play a huge role in the show's axing. The biggest group of course was the Parents Television Council, who condemned the show for promoting pornography. After all, Playboy themselves helped to produce the show. The show did have nudity, but it wasn't shown on NBC and will be limited to international airings (after all, full nudity's OK to be shown in other countries) and DVD releases.

Of course, one NBC station, Salt Lake City's KSL-TV chose not to air the show because the station's owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Recently, KSL launched an initiative that aides families affected by porn. Station management felt that associating KSL with Playboy would be hypocritical against the station's image.

Another religious group, the American Decency Association, which is based in nearby Fremont, MI, also claimed victory. They condemned advertisers for showing their spots on the show. They even got outraged at Cornerstone University here in Grand Rapids - which happens to be a Christian school - for even advertising locally on Grand Rapids' NBC station WOOD-TV 8 on the last episode.

Thankfully, there's still hope that The Playboy Club won't be as what the now-defunct Trio cable network once called "Brilliant, But Cancelled". Hefner and the show's producers are looking to shop the show to Bravo, but with the NBA lockout looming, TNT has expressed interest in the show.

As for the Club's former timeslot, it's now used by repeats of another failing NBC show, Prime Suspect, which stars an actress who's no stranger to full frontal nudity, Maria Bello.

Look. I think it's sick that every other show on TV is CSI or a CSI clone, and each and every show has to have a bloody cadaver. Yet, tits, ass and especially pussy scares people. Hell, I once had a boss who had seizures when he saw blood. Yet, I've never heard of anybody dying from looking at a hot piece of ass bent over with her innards exposed. Full frontal nudity's all over free TV in other countries like England and Canada, but because of these bass ackwards Jebus freaks, Oh, noes! We can't have that here in America!

In the end, it's all about money and power. Remember, Bill Johnson, the head of the aforementioned ADA makes $60,000 per year, and a lot of that money comes from the Prince Foundation, which has close ties to Amway and Blackwater/Xe. Just because an organization calls themselves Christian doesn't mean that they're angels.

But also in the end, it's we the viewers who all have the final word.

Just when it was safe to lie back and relax, the idiot who helped run Citadel Grand Rapids into the ground found a new job.

Last week, it was announced that Townsquare Media, the parent of Grand Rapids radio stations WGRD 97.9, WLHT Channel 95.7, 98.7 WFGR and WNWZ 1410 had hired former Citadel GM Matt Hanlon to overlook the company's advertising division.

His official title is now "Senior Vice President of Sales".

Hanlon will now be the boss for the company's salespeople, and will develop strategies to increase profits and train salespeople.

Prior to leading Citadel to bankruptcy, Hanlon was a sales person for AOL and Katz Media. Sales is in his blood, but just wait. He'll weasel his way back up to GM, but with Townsquare.

Now, as some of you know, Free Beer and Hot Wings - the morning guys on 'GRD - poke fun at Hanlon on their show frequently. I would imagine if Hanlon became GM for Townsquare GR, FB&HW would move to WNWZ like he did to Stern with 1340 (and bear in mind, 1410's signal's a bigger joke than 1340's, especially at night). I'd also imagine WGRD - complete with their new morning show that got canned from Kansas City, MO for only getting a .2 in the ratings - would move to the weaker 98.7 and 97.9 would flip to Spanish while 1410 would be flipping to old people sleeping at Chamber of Commerce meetings.

And yes, 95.7 would stay put, except with Dave and Geri in the morning.

In two weeks, my Sirius subscription's set to expire, and I'm beyond broke. But, I'm willing to spend the money that I don't have on extending my subscription because I don't want to deal with three radio companies that are run by assholes. God bless WGRD, but not with Hanlon running some of the show. Why should I bow to two companies that ditched Stern on all their stations - Clear Channel and Cumulus - and the company that hired the dumbass who blew up KLQ?

In the world of radio, there's no real lesser of evils, I guess.

10.6.11 Hero of the Day: Steve Jobs

-------------------
A SPECIAL HERO OF THE DAY!

Name: Steve Jobs
Age: deceased
Occupation: former CEO and founder of Apple
Last Seen: deceased
Awarded For: being this generation's Thomas Edison
---

These days, we all think that the wealthiest 1% of all Americans are all assholes.

Steve Jobs, OTOH, might have been a smug little devil, but damn was a smart one.

Steve was only 21 when he, alongside fellow 20-something Steve Wozniak and the much-older Ronald Wayne started Apple Computer on April Fools' Day in 1976. In the next several years, Apple took a machine that once took a full room and made it much smaller and so easy to use that a child could use it. Apple did things that other computer manufacturers didn't touch, like their infamous "1984" ad that ran during the Super Bowl that aforementioned year.

Apple grew throughout the 1980's with their Macintosh computers, but declined in the 1990s only to gain new fame with their iMac and further into the 2000s with the MacBook and today with the iPod, iPhone and the iPad. Part of the reason was Jobs' firing in 1985. When he came back in the mid-90's, he brought a whole new rebirth to the company, soaring its stock some 7,000%. Jobs proved to the world that with the ever-growing technology that his company created, that it only made most peoples' lives easier.

Just imagine that 10 years ago, that most people didn't even have a cell phone. Now, not only do people have a cell at all times, many now have the web and other neat little devices like bar code scanners and even voice technology so you can have a conversation with a foreigner. Thank Steve Jobs for helping to create the iPhone. Ten years ago, yes, you could download songs off the web, but it stayed on your computer until you could burn it onto a disc, which can be painstakingly long. Thank Steve Jobs for the iPod. Ten years ago, there were laptops, but they were bulky. Thank Steve Jobs for the iPad.

We could go on and on about what Jobs created, or could have created. Of course, I'll admit that I don't have Apple anything. My PC is an antique custom build that doesn't handle Flash too well (it takes more than 10 minutes to plow my field on Farmville). I do have a smartphone, but it's an Android. But think of it this way: it was Jobs and Apple who kinda made Android possible because it's the same premise. The iPhone came out first, so Google started doing things their way. Sadly, I can't fully compare the two since I never owned an iPhone, but my Android phone does the trick.

But, that doesn't mean that I hate Apple. My first school computers were Apples. I even remember the first model I used: a IIGS. I even learned how to use Photoshop on an Apple in tech school. I did once own a Macintosh that a relative gave my Dad to give to me as a teen: it didn't work since it was so old.

The one thing that Steve Jobs couldn't stop is getting sick. He battled pancreatic cancer and won, and even got a liver transplant. In his last public appearance a few months ago while introducing the second iPad, he looked skinny and weak. Jobs died yesterday at the age of 56. No cause of death is known at this time.

Jobs did well for somebody born to a Syrian immigrant who gave him up for adoption to a Jewish couple. A computer geek at heart, Jobs revolutionized anything he touched. He even changed movies forever when he bought out Pixar from George Lucas and produced the first-ever all-computer animated film, Toy Story. When I was a teen, I thought that computers were too dorky until the internet came out. Thanks to Jobs, EVERYBODY now has to have the internet at all times.

It's pathetic that Jobs died too fucking young and yet there's people who add nothing to life who are all still around. But who knows. Yes, Apple wasn't perfect with its labor and environmental records, plus the fact that Jobs himself was worth $8 billion...

...But sometimes, people do contribute good things to life in different ways.

Ut-oh, somebody's been probably drinkin' with Kid Rock....

A man that I rarely if ever talk about in these parts, Hank Williams, Jr., got himself into some deep trouble with the show that's been a breadwinner to him for over 20 years.Monday Night Football dropped his long-time theme song, "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" because of comments he made on Fox News Channel over President Obama. On Fox and Friends, Bocephus told their wonked out hosts that watching President Obama golf with John Boehner is like Hitler playing with Benjamin Netanyahu.

In hillbilly redneck terms, Obama is just like Hitler. Understandable.

Of course, MNF dropped 'Rowdy' as a response to Jr.'s uncalled for outburst. A day later, Williams canceled an appearance on another Fox News show, Hannity to release an apology to those offended by his statement.

Williams is a long-time Republican and even campaigned for many candidates such as John McCain and George W. Bush. He even re-did many of his classics for their campaigns, i.e. "Family Tradition" became "McCain-Palin Tradition".

But, there's a voice of reason, and it's his own son, Hank III. He told TMZ that there's only one person in music who should ever talk politics, and it's Dead Kennedys lead singer Jello Biafra. Biafra is a leader in the Green Party. However, III - a cowpunk singer - has kept his opinions to himself.

Ya know, I remember a song Jr. did on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon a few years ago called "Red White and Pink-Slip Blues". It was about a man who loses his job and is fighting foreclosure on the family home. At the end of the song, he yells "politicians, I'm talkin' to you!" Yeah, well, Mr. Republican, guess why the man lost his job: union busting, outsourcing and skyrocketing CEO pay and tax-lowering, all brought to you by Reagan and the two Bushes.

Calling out Obama's not going to help your career, especially when there's thousands of liberals storming Wall Street and elsewhere demanding that the government shut evil CEOs down.

Right now, I'll betcha that Jr.'s own father is spinning in his grave. One of the great legends of Country Music that I've heard is that the original Hank Williams learned to play the guitar from a black porter. Not too shabby since many southerners and Country Music fans hate dem coloreds with a passion. Thanks to changing times, blacks have evolved from porters to businessmen to the President of the United States.

If only Sr. wasn't a heavy drinker, maybe Jr. would make some sense.

10.4.11 Bee-otch of the Day: Corporate America

Name: Corporate America
Age: ageless
Occupation: the people who run our country

Bee-otched For: forcing a revolution
---

Ladies and gentlemen, people are doing something.

And that thing is called "waking up".

I remember just a few short years ago, I went and saw Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story and there were hardly anyone under 50 sans myself. It opened the same weekend as four other movies, and one of them was some zombie movie with Woody Harrelson and that Jewish kid who played Mark Zuckerberg. It was the top movie at the box office while Capitalism left theatres as a dud.

Finally, after two years of being sick and tired of living in mommy's basement with two college degrees that have become worthless, the young Americans are finally speaking out.

Thousands of people are marching the streets of New York and Wall Street to protest against the corporate greed that has ravaged and bankrupted this nation. The event is called Occupy Wall Street and its main idea is to have a protest similar to the ones in Egypt that called for the ousting of its government. These protests call for the nation's wealthy to start paying up to reduce the deficit and to create jobs to lower the unemployment rate.

Many celebrities have lent their hand to the cause, including Michael Moore, Alec Baldwin and rapper Lupe Fiasco. The event has no leader and it is heavily liberal, although independents have showed their support for the case.

So far, the protests have gone well, although nearly 800 people have been arrested for everything for crossing police barricades, disorderly conduct and a few for entering a building belonging to Bank of America. However, it was the crossing of the Brooklyn Bridge where some 700 people were docked. It was discovered that JP Morgan donated equipment to the police, which may have led to the arrests.

The protests have proven one thing and one thing only: we've had enough. We the Americans are fed up at the fact that thanks to Republican bullshit that the wealthiest Americans pay little to no tax while 99% of the rest of us are paying through the nose to the point that we have no choice but to use credit cards - and JP Morgan owns Chase - just to buy the essentials.

Look, we were duped. We got fucked with Reagen, we got fucked with Bush I and especially with Bush II. We started seeing change with Obama from 2008-2010, but hey, looky here! There's a man dressed like Uncle Sam but in blackface on the sidewalk! It's the Tea Party! And tragically, they got their way in 2010. Now, the House is overrun by corporate assholes and so are our governors, like Michigan's. End result: high unemployment, high gas prices and many Americans still wondering how to survive.

In the end, the people have learned. We need a revolution, and we need it NOW. We want jobs, and good paying ones. Not the ones that only pay a few cents over minimum wage and no real chances for raises. If our government can't find a way to fix anything, we will make a change in 2012. It's time to throw the thugs out. We need an all Democrat House, Senate and President to end the wealthy's free ride. No more key words from the right like "tax cut" and "spending". It's time for the wealthy to do what's morally right and bring America back.

And the revolution's only beginning.
