Looks like we're going to have Slutgate forever and ever...
I listened to that fat load's show a little bit on Friday, and even in conservative Grand Rapids, I heard a few promos on WOOD 1300 instead of commercials. It's also worth noting that also on Friday, WABC 770 in New York mostly aired PSAs and dead air.
In response to the fact that he's lost dozens of sponsors last week, Rush Limbaugh proclaimed that losing advertisers is like losing a few French Fries out of the box. But with people avoiding El Rushbo like the plague, Rush might have to downgrade his mega mansion in West Palm Beach to a small trailer. After all, WABC New York air a buttload of dead air on Friday's show last week.
Last weekend, a group of protesters lined up inside Clear Channel's Grand Rapids headquarters at Monroe Center to protest Rush's show. Many of the protestors were women angry over the the right winged pundit's calling of Georgetown Law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and "prostitute" on his show a week and a half ago. Some of those protesting were students at conservative Christian Calvin College and believed that Rush's comments went over the line. One woman at Calvin told MLive.com that Limbaugh's comments offended every woman, no matter what political affiliation or faith. Many of the protesters even wrote to Clear Channel, asking them to cancel the popular program.
Tim Feagan, the GM of Clear Channel Grand Rapids told the Grand Rapids Press that the company respects those on both sides of the political spectrum and that no matter what Rush said, that they realize that he has sparked debate on both sides of the issue.
Clear Channel owns two AM stations in Grand Rapids, WOOD and WTKG 1230, which only broadcasts with 1,000 watts and airs a mixed bag of liberals such as Ed Schultz and Grand Rapids-born Thom Hartmann, but also airs conservatives Dave Ramsey and Todd Schnitt (who, mind you, is already losing affiliates left and right).
WOOD, on the other hand, not only broadcasts with 25,000 watts on 1300, but also broadcasts at 106.9 FM out of Muskegon and has a decent signal in Grand Rapids.
CC also owns Country station B93, 96.1 ESPN, milquetoast rocker 101.3 The Fox and CHR 104.5 WSNX in Grand Rapids.
Personally, I haven't given two shits about Clear Channel since they made headlines in 2004 when they canceled The Howard Stern Show on all their stations, fearing indecency fines. The true reason for CC canning Stern, IMO is politics, plain and simple. While Howard's knocking sense into his listeners, Rush is brainwashing people into his Nazi agenda. After all, he's in the middle of a massive $400 million contract with the company that expires in 2016.
And Clear Channel, on the other hand, is some $20 BILLION in debt.
Later today, I will keep monitoring the happenings at Limbaugh's show, mainly regards to advertisers. Thankfully, he's got a guest host filling in today so I won't have to listen to his irritating voice. He has a golf tournament to attend.
May a golf ball smack him upside the head.---
