In the next few weeks, the fine folks at Clear Channel will release their list of people who will be canned.

Well, we know one of them: Randi Rhodes.

Yep, it was made official: The Randi Rhodes Show will be off the air come year's end. The show is one of the very few left-leaning shows on Clear Channel's Premiere Radio Networks, the home of righties such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. The show had only 30 affiliates; its last Michigan affiliate, WDTW 1310 in Detroit, signed off on New Years Day this year.

Yet, Rush has 600.

After being a hit in her home in West Palm Beach, FL for years, Rhodes finally got syndicated as part of Air America's schedule in 2004. However, she left AA in 2008 after comments she made against Geraldine Ferraro during an event for her San Francisco affiliate. She moved over to Nova M, another progressive network. However, both Air America and Nova M went belly up, but thankfully, Rhodes moved over to Clear Channel/Premiere in 2009.

Sadly, thanks to big radio groups like Clear Channel and the fact that they syndicate yes men like Rush, Randi's show was swept under the rug. Despite being on a few good stations, Randi suffered from 1) being on the same time slot as Thom Hartmann, preventing her show from airing live and 2) being owned by a big, evil company like Clear Channel, which did nothing to promote her program.

It was announced yesterday that Clear Channel and Randi will part ways and she could be looking for a new syndicator. She'll likely end up on Westwood One, which syndicates Hartmann, Ed Schultz, Stephanie Miller, Bill Press and other libs, but the problem is, that company is getting bought out by Cumulus, and they're a pretty conservative company. So, who knows?

But with the way radio's being run, it's no reason to bounce your boobies. Clear Channel - and others - invested in progressive talk radio only to shut it down. They cry that there's no audience for it. However, they dumped their shows on throwaway stations with weak signals while Rush and Hannity get the 50,000-watt sticks. There's your answer.

Personally, I think that's what happens when we allow something like the Fairness Doctrine to be dissolved and companies like Clear Channel to swallow up every station they can get their mitts on. The audience loses by getting crappy shows from hypocritical talking heads who don't care about any middle class. They slam the small guy while they sit back in their leather chair in their big ass mansion sucking on cigars and Oxy. And poor Randi - who cares about you and me - is going to stand in the soup line at Christmas.

And that's why, my friend, I don't work in radio.
