The Virus has stopped spreading.
After 13 years, what's left of the Opie and Anthony Show has ended. Gregg "Opie" Hughes has been fired from SiriusXM due to unknown disciplinary actions. In a statement, SiriusXM claimed that they aren't at liberty to explain as to why Opie was let go.
The firing comes almost exactly three years after Opie's ex-partner, Anthony Cumia was fired for making a series of racist Tweets after he was assaulted by a black woman. In the past few years, Opie's show moved to afternoons and his channel, The Virus was renamed Faction Talk, which simply signaled the loss of popularity Opie himself has had since Anthony was fired and the show's once rabid fans simply grew up.
Once upon a time, Opie and Anthony were on top of the world, or so it seemed. They catapulted themselves from Long Island to Boston to New York where they made a career of ripping off Howard Stern. They built an audience of idiots who thought their brand of comedy was the best and many of them were encouraged to attack Stern fans like me (and trust me, their fans LOVED to rip me apart). Of course, it all came to an end when they had their infamous "Sex For Sam" contest where a couple had sex in a Catholic church in 2004. As a result, they were fired from CBS and they moved to what was then simply XM.
However, O&A were rehired by CBS because they lost so many listeners when Stern moved to Sirius. So, they did three hours in the morning at K-Rock - Howard's old station - and an additional two hours at XM. Their CBS show was syndicated and was even carried here in Grand Rapids on WKLQ where their ratings seemed to be (and I can't resist).... 0.0. Thankfully, that disaster only lasted two years.
Over the years, O&A proved to the world how useless they are by their constant bashing of the homeless; one time, Opie was seen on camera stepping on a cake in front of a homeless man. Thankfully when Anthony was fired, it seemed that their pests where nowhere to be found. Maybe they all grew up and got out of mommy's basement. They were still nowhere to be found when Cumia beat the shit out of his 26-year-old girlfriend in 2015 and it was all recorded on camera.
In the end, O&A came, conquered and left with nothing. Hell, the two aren't on speaking terms. I would expect that Opie will do a podcast and call it good. Will he get paid? God only knows.
All we care about is that Hoo-Hoo won.
