Wanna know a secret about me? Here it is: I actually watch The McLaughlin Group. As a matter of fact, it's the only show I watch on PBS. Why? Simple: because it shows how smart liberals are - and tragically, the only liberal voice it has at times is Eleanor Clift - and how retarded the conservatives are in thought.
But last weekend's episode of the Group proved that even conservatives loved Obama's speech he made in Tucson last week during the memorial for the victims killed two Saturdays ago at a Safeway parking lot. When host John McLaughlin asked his group what score they would give his speech, Pat Buchanan gave an A+, Clift gave him an A++ and guest panelist Arianna Huffington - on a break from voicing the female bear on The Cleveland Show - gave out a straight A. Even the extremely cunty Monica Crowley gave out a B+.
One point Eleanor handed out during discussion was the fact that the president told people that we as a nation should live up to the expectations of one of the murdered - Christina Green - and not bury our heads in hateful remarks. She even pointed out that Roger Ailes, the president of Fox News Channel ordered his hosts to "cool it".
Of course, the president was referring to the infamous Sarah Palin "crosshair map" which some linked to the massacre. Many felt that Jared Loughner had some type of conservative belief in his blood that lead him to want to shoot Gabrielle Giffords, who was on Palin's map for supporting Obama's job-killin-er, destroying health care plan.
Now, Clear Channel's getting in the act of respecting a still-saddened Tucson. Last week, the company tore down a billboard - the one above - promoting Rush Limbaugh's radio show on I-10, just five miles from the Safeway supermarket where the shooting occurred. Co-incidentally, the billboard and Rush's Tucson station - KNST - are both owned by Clear Channel.
As you would imagine, the billboard is quite unfortunate during a sad time in Tucson's history. Why Clear Channel would keep the billboard up for such a long time is beyond the most of us. But then again, this is a company that puts more money into right-winged BS than talk that actually relates to the common man. Hell, they syndicate Randi Rhodes; how many stations here in Michigan air her show?
Point is, right-winged hate talk is partially to blame since it's all over the media. Who knows if Loughner was a huge Rush fan? But still, there have been people who listen to the Gospel of Glenn Beck and Michael Weiner who go out and hurt those fighting for us. Remember the abortion doctor, George Tiller who was shot and killed in his own church in Wichita some years back? Guess what? His killer, Scott Roeder was a huge fan of The 700 Club.
True, not all fans of Limbaugh's are going to go out with an AK-47 strapped to their back and open fire on Obama. Same goes with fans of Pat Robertson's. The point is, people need to watch what they say, especially when it comes to important political figures. Gabby Giffords is a damn lucky women to have survived Loughner's gun blasts. Sadly, Christina Green wasn't so lucky.
Maybe, just maybe, Rush should be the one looking down the barrel of a gun.
