Remember when a little company called Air America shut down?
Air America was supposed to be the liberal answer to right-winged crap like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity with hosts like Al Franken, Janeane Garofalo and Randi Rhodes. However, they ran into cash problems and shuttered for good. Part of the reason why was because Clear Channel put AAR on many of their underperforming, weak-powered AM stations and got no results. Thankfully, Dial Global has taken a lot of the prog-talk torch with the likes of Thom Hartmann, Stephanie Miller and Ed Schultz.
Yes, the Rushes of the world all cried that liberal talk wouldn't get ratings or even sell, but guess what? Conservative talk is doing the same shit.
Talk Radio Network has lost its two most-popular hosts in just two months. First, it was Michael Savage, who left after he won a lawsuit against TRN when a judge ruled that his contract with the talker was too old. Just weeks later, he signed with Cumulus Media - the old ABC Network - and his show now airs nights.
Now, TRN has lost another heavyweight: Laura Ingraham. She announced that she had left the network to pursue other interests. With her and Savage's departure, from the sounds of things, TRN's just another Mickey Mouse company.
TRN isn't dead yet; they still have a ton of second-tier talkers like Rusty Humphries, Jerry Doyle, Phil Hendrie, Mancow and Roy Masters, the father of company president Mark Masters. For the time being, Ingraham's show is being hosted by Tammy Bruce, a tea partyer who happens to be a lezbo.
So liberals can't sell on talk radio? Try conservatives, too! Savage and Ingraham were TRN's meal tickets and now they're stuck with hosts that are getting their asses kicked by Rush and Hannity. It sucks to be them. Hell, even Ingraham was a second-tier since she went head-to-head with Glenn Beck during his timeslot. TRN might as well grab the gas can and matches and collect the insurance money.
