At 11:15 last night, just 15 minutes or so after it was announced that he was the winner in the 2008 elections, Barack Obama was re-elected as the President of the United States.
Despite millions of dollars from many everybody from the Koch Brothers to Wall Street bankers being poured in to negative campaign ads against the president and his pro-middle class policies, Obama won fair and square despite a very heated and close election. The President did have his bumps, such as his first debate against Willard Romney, but rebounded thanks to his other debates and his positive handling of Superstorm Sandy last week.
The son of a failed automobile company, Romney was nothing more than a Mr. Burns wannabe who told Americans that he was going to save America and jumpstart the economy, even though gas prices are falling and jobs are returning to America. Too many people felt that Romney was nothing more than a Dubya clone with policies that had failed this great country in 2008. Not to mention, the capture of Osama bin Laden made things better for the president, especially when the last one let terrorism into this country.
But even with billionaires trying to get another one of their own back into the White House, one voice was one vote. Fed up with the right's negative rhetoric and hate, Americans voted and won.
It will be exciting to see what this country will end up like in 2016. Will it be like 2000 all over again with Obama balancing the budget and working both sides of the aisle to create a solution like Clinton did? I hope so. It took Bush eight years to destroy America and it will take Obama at least four more to get the ball rolling again. His naysayers will have no room to talk when they realize that their taxes will be lower and their healthcare will be lower as well. As long as right-winged wackjobs like the Tea Party stay out of the way, things will look up in the future.
