Name: The Republican Party

Occupation: right-winged wackos
Last Seen: in this case, Lansing, MI
Bee-otched For: wanting to force everybody into low wages

Folks, I'll say it once, and I'll say it again:
When the whole world starts to implode, don't come crying to me. I vote Democrat because I feel that all Americans deserve good wages and a good way of life. Vote Republican and you'll see change for the worse.
And two years ago, I voted for Virg Bernero. Once again, don't cry to me, especially if you didn't vote in 2010.
Now, the Republican-led legislature of Michigan is going to debate a measure that would bring this state closer to being a right-to-work state. In a right-to-work state, people don't need to join unions. However, it would force unions away from companies, which would usher in low wages and it's even proven that the injury rate in a right-to-work state is worse than that of a union state. Non-union bosses can - and will force - their workers into doing things they cannot physically do.
Because of this, protesters are now hitting the state capitol, and many are comparing their fight to the one held in Wisconsin last year that led to the unsuccessful recall election of that state's governor, Scott Walker. Unlike Walker, Michigan governor Rick Snyder - also a Republican - wasn't a total Tea Party favorite, but some felt that since he outspent Bernero by a 10:1 margin in the 2010 election in terms of ads and promotion, that yes, his election was bought.
Folks, we need unions. Because of them, we have the 40-hour work week. If we work over 40 hours, we're legally obligated to overtime. We have a minimum wage. We have sick pay, and so on. Sadly, thanks to the union busting from the likes of Reagan and the Bushes, the average person makes only 1% more than what they did 30 years ago and the days of being able to go across the street if you hate your job are over. Now, people like me are stuck working in hellholes that don't pay very well and with marginal benefits while the boss vacations every other month. Yeah, there's union dues, but that's that. They're there to protect us from jerk bosses that want to pay you less for a job somebody better can do for more money.
In the end, I hope Michigan learns its lesson. Rick Snyder will be one and done come 2014. Let's throw the nerd out of office and bring somebody who actually loves Michigan back into the capitol. It's time to bring this state back.
It's too bad that what happened in 2010 was nothing more than a chink in the armor.
