It's official: John Balyo has confessed to having sex with a 12-year-old boy.
He was arraigned yesterday in the Calhoun County Courthouse in Battle Creek where he was charged with CSC, a felony that might get the Christian radio veteran life behind bars. He was held with $500,000 bond, but that has since been revoked.
Balyo's charges stemmed from a federal investigation regarding Ronald Moser, who was charged with prostituting children under 12 and running a child pornography ring. He arranged Balyo to come to Battle Creek to have sexual relations with the 12-year-old boy. It's unclear at the moment if Balyo has other charges against him, but a CSC is a major offense.
Balyo had been the morning talent on 91.3 WCSG, a popular Christian Contemporary radio station in Grand Rapids owned by Cornerstone University, a Christian college also in Grand Rapids. The station - although not rated by Nielsen - has an audience similar to most of the top five stations in town. Balyo hosted the "Family-Friendly Morning Show", co-hosted by a DJ that goes by the name "Amanda". When news broke out of Balyo's arrest Friday at the Big Ticket Festival in Gaylord, the station announced that he had been suspended, but with pay. Now, the station has parted ways with Balyo and Chris Lemke, the station's General Manager took to the airwaves Monday morning on WCSG to talk about Balyo's crime and firing:
Hi, this is Chris Lemke, General Manager of WCSG. This past Friday, the WCSG family was shocked and saddened to learn that WCSG morning show host, John Balyo, was arrested amid allegations which have since been much publicized. On Saturday, WCSG and Cornerstone University ended its affiliation with John.
We sincerely grieve over these recent events, in particular the tragic impact on victims and their parents.
The WCSG family is deeply aching and know you may be hurting as well.
We know that no one, absolutely no one, is immune from falling into the darkness of sin. And yet, we have hope. Those who truly follow and live for Jesus Christ know He alone has the power to restore broken lives and broken trust. In that light, I want you, our radio family, to know that more than ever WCSG exists to serve as a Christ-centered influence through compelling content, relevant platforms and compassionate relationships. Our vision is to be the encouraging, engaging and equipping media influence for Christ, his church and his kingdom, here in West Michigan.
Over the next few weeks, we request you to pray in earnest for John, his family, our team here at WCSG, that God’s people will not lose heart, and, most certainly for the victims related to the allegations.

While I applaud Mr. Lemke for his (mostly) responsible actions regarding the case with Balyo, the situation irks me to the point where it makes me happy that I don't hardly ever donate money to anybody, PERIOD. Giving money to anybody from a big organization to the bum on the street corner makes me wonder where the money is really going? Giving to a bum could equate to him or her going to the liquor store where his or her alcoholism could lead to their demise. But with big organizations, there's the issue of "is my money going to help people or will it help buy its CEO a new Lexus?"
In the case of WCSG, well, now we know. It helped to feed John Balyo's perverted and illegal sexual desires. So, to the people who fought to get Howard Stern off local Grand Rapids radio and fought local strip clubs who support WCSG, congratulations, you supported somebody who did something worse than throw bologna at stripper's asses. It makes me proud that I don't support virtually Christian anything; it's because it's more corrupt than your local neighborhood strip joint.
Like I said, I hope John Balyo will burn in hell for what he did. Yeah, praying for him is OK, but remember, that 12-year-old will be scarred for life.
